Is my trip to this place really as bad as it could be? I think I'm making good choices? I'd like to think this is the best possible choice as a cheat meal if there was one...Better than say, burgers, nachos or chicken wings...etc.....

If any of you aren't familiar with a Mongolian BBQ, what you do is, take a bowl, and fill it with various meats, noodles, veggies, spices...and then they throw the mix on a grill and scoop it on your plate....But I'd like to think that eating this food isn't too bad for you IF...IF...you make the right selections...My first selections is that I remember moderation...After that, I'll put a small portion noodles in......then add lots of chicken and khalamari (squid).....throw in some carrots, bean sprouts, sesame seeds, almonds, green peppers, mushrooms and add some vinegar and pepper and a little sesame oil....

Like I said, it's a cheat meal...but I think it is the lesser of two evils....Thoughts?

I think mongolian BBQ can be extremely healthy because you control what ingredients go in.
You can add a ton of veggies, go light on the oils/meats/noodles and end up with very tasty and very very healthy meals.

Also, great for dining with vegetarians because they can ensure their meals have exactly what they want in them.

Mongolian BBQ is about choice. It is as healthy as you make it.

Mongolian BBQ is damn good stuff! Just go easy on the noodles and oils....BUT since it IS a cheat meal, knock yourself out...just watch out for post-cheat bloating.

MMMM...MUST...GO...MONGOLIAN...THIS WEEKEND!!

That place rocks! Little pricey where we are...like 15 bucks a person...great place to have a "healthy" cheat meal. The way I look at it since you are in control of the ingredients you can make a great meal, thats healthy and that satisfies your craving.

You of course (as has been mentioned) have to be careful of the sauces and oils and use them in moderation. THis is diificult for me because I LOVE intense flavor. I mean I dip and marinate everything...hence the name I was given by my mother at a young age of the "BIG DIPPER". As I have learned to cut down on sauces/oils etc...I have discovered two things that have helped:

1. Use spices in mass quantities to add intense flavor, instead of loading on the sauces.

2. Learn to enjoy the natural flavors of the food you are eating. I.E. veggies, meats etc...once you have eaten just the plain food for a while you begin to enjoy and actually crave that flavor which minimizes the amount of sauce and such that you put on because you still want to be able to taste the actual food.

Enjoy your Mongolian! :tu: I envy you as my cheat day for this week was wednesday...oh well maybe next weekend!
