but the diet looks good nonetheless.
mikeysela Thu, January 29th, 2009, 07:11 PM thanks for the opinion. the reason im cutting is like i generally look fine, im not overweight or look bad, but i have an annoying gut, all other parts of my body are fine, but my belly is annoying and when i sit down its huge..lol..but im not fat and i look fine on the outside but my belly fat is bugging me and id like to be lean/ get a 6 pack..im around 13 percent body fat, possibly 12

u'll probably have more luck lifting weights and adding a bit of muscle. at that weight you probably don't have much muscle and adding a bit will both help u lean out and definitely give you more of the end look of having a 6 pack.
at least ur eating 2400 cals though. that's probably a decent level for a recomp for ya.... which is probably what you want most.
are you doing any lifting??
mikeysela Thu, January 29th, 2009, 07:22 PM yea i do probably more lifting than cardio..but i try to even both out actaully..i dont have specific plan or workout routine..i just work..5 times a week i do some kind of intense activity..soccer..basketball..weights..running..wh atever.. i feel fine at 2400, but what do you think i should do? because i just want to become leaner, and i am like fairly muscular and stong. but if i have this annoying gut, shouldnt i be cutting and losing fat rather than bulking?

not really bulking.... but i don't think you should focus on cutting. more just "recompositing".... gaining a little bit of muscle while losing a little bit of fat.
i'm guessing (assuming) you've been eating ur fair share of junk up until now??
if you stick to the diet you listed and focus a bit harder on the weights you should be able to eat at least maintenance cals and get the results ur looking for.
the intense cleaning up of the diet does a LOT for the gut. and a bit more focus on a weight program will build some muscle and get ur metabolism up to burn that fat around ur belly.
u probably don't want to lose any weight. i think if you can eat clean, lift hard, and find a calorie range that keeps ur scale weight about the same you should lean out pretty quickly without looking like a emancipated scrawny skeleton. just my opinion though!!
mikeysela Thu, January 29th, 2009, 09:22 PM alright :), that defentely makes perfect sense..ive been on this plan for a month now and i feel alot better, and am starting to look much better. and no, i ahvent eaten my fair share of junk, but i havent had such a meal plan of 6 a day with certain foods, ive just eaten fairly healthy but a combination of occasional junk and drinking are probably the reasons for the gut i posses..but now im set on changing that..so yea ..im absically doing what you said..lifting hard..balanced meal plan of 2400 calories with good balance of carbs, fat, protein, and im feeling good and im notciing a bit of results, but the gut will defenetely be very hard to get to flatness/6 pack, ive never had complete flatness and 6 pack and thats what im working towards now, so i'll see what kind of progress im making.
thanks very much for the help
mike

Deja said it all :D.
The thing with getting a six pack is that if you don't have an overall muscle base, you'll just end up looking scrawny. You may not even be able to get those abs to show properly because of lack of muscle development. It's smarter to focus on a longterm goal of adding muscle while slowly dropping fat (i.e. recompositioning) and then start worrying about getting rid of the last bit of fat. It's not all about teh abz. ;)
If you want, you can post some pictures so that we have a better idea of what you're working with, but given what you've shared so far I'd give you the exact same advice that deja outlined above.
mikeysela Sun, February 1st, 2009, 06:39 PM I'll try and post some pics soon J_W. In the mean time, could you guys tell me if HIIT cardio would be a good solution for me? I love cardio and i want to get in better running shape to play soccer with a team over the summer. Also, please explain how the HIIT excersize would look like. As far as machines, I am good with the treadmill and the bike for the HIIT. So if you could describe a typical HIIT session on the bike or treadmill that would be great. I find 100 rpm is high intensity for me on the bike, and 9.5 mph would be high for me on the treadmill. thanks so much
