I was awakened this morning at 2:30am with a charley horse cramp in each of my calf's. Later this morning at work, I reached with my left arm towards by back and another super cramp in my rib area. I was talking with a co worker about this and she said I was dehydrated. I replied "no way" I drink a gallon of water a day. She said I needed to drink something such as Gatorade because my cramps were caused by low electrolytes. I told her that Gatorade had too much sugar and I didn't want to drink it but she insisted that unless I drank something similar to this my cramping would continue.

Any truth to this?

It can be caused by dehydration, but low potassium is also another factor. add a bunch of bananas to your diet ;)

If you are drinking water. The potassium should do trick. Gatoraid has an excellent publicity agent, IMO.

Very interesting as far as the banana's. What I didn't mention in the original post is that the person I was speaking with explained that she was eating a ton of banana's but still having the problem. This is how the Gatorade can into play.

I will give the banana's a try though.
