At work, 3 friends and I were talking about new years resolutions. 2 of us need to lose weigh and the other two are trim, but could be in better shape.

We were talking about having a competition (every one throw some $$ into the pot and after 4 weeks, winner takes all and probably repeat every 4 weeks). The problem is, we don't know how to have a fair measure.

Is there a way to measure and compare people with different goals?

Any suggestions on how to proceed?

edit: If this is the wrong sub-forum, please move it. Thanks!

I find that things like this never tend to work out. If you go by scale weight per week/month however you decide there are too many veriables to it. Plus if it's a money thing people will just cheat and starve themselves rather than do it right. I'm sure you realize it but the average joe doesn't think BMI they think only scale weight matters. You could weigh in at 200lbs and still have a 6 pack where as another guy could weigh in at 140lbs and still be flabby. Scales don't mean jack if you are going soley on body composition. I say scratch the "bet" and just be eachothers accountability partners in getting into shape.
