Can you use any smith machine as a vertical leg press if you can find (or make) a footplate that fits it?

For example, if you bought the footplate that Ironmaster sells for their IM2000 to make it into a vertical leg press, could you use that on any Smith machine?

I made one for mine....there's a pic of it in back-posts somewhere.

It's withstood everything I've thrown at it so far.

I haven't used it for awhile though. I quit doing vertical leg presses...too hard on the lower back.
