It's kind of preaching to the choir here, but an interesting article from wired on how complex (and how bad) being fat really is:

Still, big-ticket killers like heart disease and cancer only start the long list of obesity's health ills. Among other things, obese people are more prone to depression, gallstones, even dying when in car accidents.

Says Dr. Michael Jensen of the Mayo Clinic, "There are so many ways that obesity can kill you."

Articles like that are a primary reason I look back at who I was and feel grateful for every day since the day I committed to changing my body. Yeah, you're preaching to the choir, but it's nice to look at the list of things I have a much better chance of avoiding in my lifetime.

huh, I had no idea fat was now considered an endocrine mechanism... but why would they say the liver produces insulin?

The liver does produce insulin. Not nearly as much as the pancreas, but it produces both glucose and insulin. Although Google may not be the most scientific search engine, just look at the sources of some of these results.
