Drink one more of those megacalorie shakes or half of one of those that you are drinking. that ought to be easy enough and if that doesn't jump start it I'd be surprised.

Yeah, I definitely will. I wanted to give it enough time, though. When you think about it, if you're eating 400 calories over, it shouls take you over 1 week to gain a pound. It justs seems so slowwww.:blank:

Very strange day today, and so was my diet.

GOt some bad news about a house we were buying and so my stomach was upset all day and I couldn't eat anything.

I forced down 2 Supermass 600 shakes, since they were easy, but didn't eat anything else until now (8:30 pm) ...

I had to go w/ steak and pizza, because I didn't want to be short on calories. I thought my diet todat was horrible, but after putting it into Fitday.....the macros don't look too bad.

Tomorrow's got to be a better day...

166 lbs this morning...

Not sure what the hell is going on, but my arms measured 1/2 " LARGER last night, using the myotape !

Hope it's not a fluke, but I havebeen working them like an animal. I really could use the encouragement. I check again in a week to make sure it's right.

Been trying to get my carbs down, but that SuperMass 600 is really the culprit. I may have to mix up a custom blend, using more All The Whey....

Today was chest day.

I was proud of my self today. I really wasn't into it today, but I stuck it out and even made it a better than average workout.

Got a minor kink in my neck today, but I think it'll be ok.

Went up in weight today. Benched my before bulk body weight, which was cool, but nerve racking, becasue at the gym, if you can't get the bar back up, you looklike a jackass, whereas, at home, I'd just roll it off me to the floor

Anyway, everything is on track, but the weight gain has slowed. We'll see how far I get at the end of the month....then adjust.

Oh yeah...SHIT !! the Seahawks lost. damn!! Ok....

Congrats on hitting 170! Is that the most you've ever weighed? Only 10 pounds to go. Unfortunatley, Feb. is a short month if you're trying to meet your goal by March 1. Or maybe if you really pig out at the cheat meal you could do it sooner.

I've got about 7 pounds to go to meet my goal of 190. Kinda hit a wall lately.:bang:

I know what you mean. I'm about at the point weightwise where I was when I got sick last month and I was ready to cut then. Now, a month later, I'm back there again and feeling fat. But I want to see this through even if it is just to dip my toe into the 190 water and immediately cut back. Here's hoping we both make our goals by March 1 so we can stop stuffing ourselves.

I know you hoped to be up to 180 by this week-end. How close did you come? Are you feeling fat yet?

I'm only going to make 170. Really stalled here. I wasn't keeping my water up, and the scale read 165 about 3 days ago, but is back in the 170 range.

Yeah, I'm getting kind of pudgy in the gut, but everything else is awesome. The easy thing to do would be to just start the cut after the cheat meal, but I really want to see 180. I'm going to keep it up until my birthday (45) on March 9th. Hopefully I can get pretty close by then.

How are YOU doing ?

I'm only going to make 170. Really stalled here. I wasn't keeping my water up, and the scale read 165 about 3 days ago, but is back in the 170 range.

Yeah, I'm getting kind of pudgy in the gut, but everything else is awesome. The easy thing to do would be to just start the cut after the cheat meal, but I really want to see 180. I'm going to keep it up until my birthday (45) on March 9th. Hopefully I can get pretty close by then.

How are YOU doing ?

I'm doing good. Weighed 186 last night, 187 at the gym this morning and 191 on the scale at work (obvoiusly with clothes on). I think I'll be 187 or 188 by the end of the week-end. So, I'm getting close. I had a personal best on the leg press this a.m. (500 pounds) and my chest measured 40" for the first time today. So I'm pumped and chubby at the same time. Like you, I will see 190 for sure before I make a change. :claphigh:

Brian, first of all, I want to apologise for calling you Kevin once. I have this thing with names. Some names seem the same to me, even though they are quite different sounding. Brian and Kevin are two. Sarah and Emily are two more. Don't know why I get them mixed up but I do.

My guess is that you'll see gains all of a sudden. One day, you'll weigh 170 and the next you'll weigh 173. Then you'll progress steadily to 177 and hit a plateau. Then a week later, BAMM, you're 180 and fat as a pumpkin with a belly to match. Just kidding. It will come. I'm down to my last 5 pounds and provided I don't get sick, I hope to see it in the next few weeks.:eat:

I know you have a busy schedule with work etc, so shakes are a must, but the way your eating is too liquid based and too shy on good, whole foods. I think this is the main crux of the problem your having. Liquid protein in large quantities will make you feel rough and certainly not bring the results that whole foods would bring.

Is it just not possible to take a cooler with you throughout the day with some chicken, potato, cottage cheese, rice, pasta etc ?

Oh well, im sure the cut will go fine, knowing you. :tu:

Hey Ted

Good point. I usually have two 800 calorie shakes, but I have them 400 calories at a time (fitday just logs it as one big meal).

I do take a cooler to work, but as I entered into the 3600+ calorie world, it was too much for me, without adding a third shake. I think bulking is MUCH harder for me, than cutting. I could eat 1500 calories a day....easy...but 3600 + ?? that's tough for me. You're right, though, you should always strive for "real food".

400g of protein from whole sources is a shitload of food !!

Once I have a greater LBM to fat ratio, I may be able to handle more food. There's always next bulk !

If I have to pick, I'll take Tubby. That's what my wife called me one time when I told her I gained 7 pounds in one week during my bulk. You and DD will have to fight over the other two.

I've finally got a decent schedule going on that I can consistently post my activities.

At the moment, I'm starting a 3 week program to cut out another 2% and really add some definition. Currently, I'm at around 10% bf and 158 lbs.

I'll be posting diet, and exercise....maybe some ramblings.

Tomorrow at wake up, I'll post my official starting weight.

Tonight it's chicken curry, it little (1/2 cup rice) and an hour and a half of walking.

Daily intake is around 1900, with lots of protein. Same drill as always :D

I think I found my favorite cardio exercise.....BASKETBALL !

JUst bought a hoop for the kides and now I'm playing all the time.

We've been having a game or two on the weekends, which ends up being more than an hour of fast movements on the court. I'm beat to all hell at the end.....kinda like HIIT.

It's the adults against the teenagers, so there's plenty of action.

It sure beats walking !

Tuesday is the day. I'm ready for the 100 challenge. I've got single digit bf, and yet I'm still a 32 1/4 wasit.....WTF ??

Oh well, the month of August will take care of that !

Wow! It's been a looooooong time !

It's been a hectic few years, and I guess the whole fitness thing took a back seat to other things in my life.

I'm back for a couple of reasons:

1. I've let myself go. Not horribly, but let's say it's going to be a rough ride to seeing my abs in the next 90 days. I'd say that at 166 lbs on a
5' 9" frame, I'm around 20-22 % bf. I should be around 142 @ 9%

2. The need to relax each night after a hectic day has led to a beer habit that I'm now feeling a bit self conscience about. I'm good for 4-5 each night for the past 18 months. That's gotta stop.

3. I'm a happier guy when maintaining a nice physique. Cutting isn't necessarily a fun time for me, but once I hit my goal, and can let losse a LITTLE, I'm a happier guy. Happy guys are better fathers and husbands.

4. I need to feel energetic again. Even though my job is phyiscally demanding, when I'm fit I can come home from a long day, jump in the shower, and enjoy my last 5 hours of the day with my family. As it is now, I just look forward the beers after work.

I've been contemplating this for a long, long time. You really have to be ready to change. It's not something you can force. You have to know there will be days (not unlike today) where the cravings will come, but you just have to ride it out. I thought about posting my restart a few times over the past month, but I knew I really wasn't into it. Now, I'm ready.

Without sounding too arrogant, I know it's already a done deal. I knew on Tuesday when I woke up, that there would be a "new me" in a few months. My commitment is unwaivering.

In the past I've pasted fitday.com logs into my journal, but I've been doing this for so long that I don't think I'll need it this time. I can eyeball portions and have read enough nutritional labels to be accurate within a hundred calories of my daily goal.

My starting stats are:

5' 9" 164 lb start weight (Tuesday, July 15th)

waist: 37 1/4 " ( I've never been that wide in my whole life !!)

I may post my start photo about halfway through my cut, we'll see.

Not sure how long this will take, but 90 days is the minimum, I believe.

GOAL:

My old abs back (nicely cut) by Oct 25th (my son's birthday). Look for me eating cake that day ! I'm looking to be around 142 lbs ..... whatever it takes to get a nice washboard again.

I'd like spend a lot of time with my kids during this next 90 days, and not let the dieting take front stage. I promised my oldest that we'd take kiteboarding lessons together in October after my cut.

Failure is not an option. :nono:

Note to self: Only jog on the beach with running shoes.

Just got back from a walk/run on the beach in my bare feet. I went out about 4 miles before I realized that my feet were getting sore from the sand. By that time, I was screwed and I had to walk back the same 4 miles. Think I'll go in the pool now and cool them down.

Oh, here's my starting pics........:o

Today I made a few food runs today.

We stopped at a roadside veggie stand and loaded up. I'm not a big veggie guy, but that's going to be my carb source for the next 12 weeks, so I'll bite the bullet.

Also threw out all the tempting crap food in the house. I kind of beyond "cheating" at this point, but you never know.

Last stop was at Costco for a truckload of chicken breasts, tuna, and fat free chili :D

We went heavy on the seafood today. Salmon is an excellent source of protien, although fattier than one might expect (albeit good fat)

Tonight's protein source: SHRIMP !!! + a small sampling of whole grain pasta, and a salad. Costco had a great deal on some 12-15 count prawns...yum !! They have an excellent seafood rub at Costco that I use on all my fish. This time I'm trying it on the shrimp.

It's food packaging night. Lots of Zip-lok action. I should be set for the next 2 weeks.

Well, friend, you sound like you're all set to go. And honestly, before you posted your present pics, I was expecting much worse, considering the size of your waist. I was picturing a big gut overhang, when in reality, you just got wider. You still have good chest development and shoulders, you just need to reduce your waist, loose some pounds, and lower your %bf. You are more than capable of doing that. :gl:

Yeh, it all goes to my waistline. I had a pretty good "V" look going for a while, now I've got the shape of a Hershey's bar

Actually, I'm hoping that I may see some added muscle mass at the end of this cut. I've been working at a very physical job this past year, and eating plenty. Who knows. It's more WHAT you eat than HOW MUCH. Thanks for the vote of confidence, CG.

Yesterday I hit the gym for the first time and wouldn't ya know, we had a "grunter" in the house. It seemed like whatever machine I used, there he was, making way too much noise for the weight he was using. I hate that.

Anyway, I've got heavys DOMS this morning. I've lost a ton of strength, but it'll improve over time, I'm sure.

I can't believe I'm into week #2 already. The transition so far has been much easier than I had expected. Maybe that's why it took me so long to get started again.

It's really amazing how much more energy I have in the evening, despite the calorie deficit. Time to make lunch and zip out of here.

ABguy
Mon, July 21st, 2008, 05:22 PM
I really enjoyed the shrimp yesterday. After eating tuna (not my favorite) today for lunch, I decided to stop by Costco today on the way home form work an get another 2 lbs of prawns for a side dish tonight. The kids will devour most of them, but I'd like a few to go with my lean steak and brown rice.

I'm trying not to obsess on the whole cutting thing, but since it's the beginning of week #2 , I thought I'd check my waistline. Down about 3/4" from my start of 37 1/4"............36 1/2"...I'll take it.

I think my weight was around 159 this morning, about 5 lbs down form last week. It doesn't really mean much at this point, it's all water loss from the reduction in sodium and crap processed foods.

I'm thinking about joining the August challenge, but not sure yet.

I'm still really sore from my workout yesterday, and will probably wait until Wednesday to resume workouts. I'll take a 5 mile walk tonight.

OK, I'm offically sick of veggies......ALREADY !!! No taste, no grease, no nothing....yuk.

I bought a stationary bike for $10 on craigslist today. I really don't have room for it, but I'll keep for the next few months and then ditch it.

I'm still massively sore from working out on Friday. I went to the gym today (on my off day) just to use light weights to loosen myself up. My abs and pecs are so sore, I'm was walking around like a hunch back to avoid the pain of standing upright. I think the 20 minutes I spent there helped, although it'll probably prolong the healing overall.

It's kind of boring (cutting). You eat right, but you really can't do much else but wait it out. An hour or so a day of either cardio or weights, and you're done for the day. It's a waiting game. I know the results will come, but I want results NOW !! :bang:

I stayed home today, so I guess my idle hands are getting the best of me. My state of mind is best when I'm busy. Tomorrow will fix that....I'll have twice the amount of stuff to do, and time will fly.

I leave you with my thought of the day: "Veggies Suck"

I'm beat tonight. Got home, put my keys down, and went at the lawn. Edging ,weeding, cutting, hedges, cleaned the pool, the whole nine yards.
I really don't feel like preparing food tonight, but I think I'm just about out of everything that I prepared last week. Maybe I could defrost a piece of salmon.

Measured myself this morning and my waist is down another 1/2 " ...I think that makes 1 1/4" so far... 5 more to go  WAIT: that's not funny ! :bang:

I keep gravitating to the gym on cardio days....what's up with that ?

I think I like the air conditioning. It's still brutal in Florida, even at
10:00pm.

Tomorrow's Friday !!! We're going to the beach house after work tomorrow.....:claphigh: It'll be different without a frosty mug of Guinness on Friday night but I'll manage, I guess.

wats the plan of action this time round? in terms of cals/weights/cardio......

I'm not really logging/counting calories, but I'm in the 1650-1800 calories range. Sounds a bit low, but it works for me.

Weights 4 times a week and cardio 3-5 days / week.

Maybe 3 days of moderate (130 bpm) cardio and 2 additional days consisting of an hour or more walk.

As always, I'll have to adjust as I go. This time, however, I'm going to give it a full 60 days before tinkering with anything. I think it'll be fine. It just gets a little hairy < 10 %..... then I need to get agressive. Will probably go to 8 %....and then I'll see. By then, the holidays will be a month away, and I may need a break or a moderate maintenance plan to cover into the New Year.

Worked legs in the morning today, and then went to work... WRONG ANSWER !! I won't do that again. My legs aren't working today, they're like Jello.
My knees are really bad. They click, grind and feel like I've got loose parts in there. I've decided that I'll probably just work legs at a weight that will serve as cardio. I don't want to tear anything, and I'm too old to start growing those toothpicks anyway. I'll concentrate on upper body.

Bringing some salmon down to the beach tonight for dinner. It's been a good week. Diet was right on. This morning my DOMS have actually lightened up. Man, that took a long time. I am a bit surprised at how much strength I've lost. I'm no where near the plates I had been doing. In some cases, half. I want to rig something up at home to do pull ups on. Wide grip pull ups are my fav, but there is always someone using that area when I go to the gym.

I'm waiting for a sale at Atlarge Nutrition to order some whey. I need some quick meal replacement options for the coming weeks.

I'm up a few pounds this morning... WTF ??? Actually, I added quite a bit of salt to my home made chicken soup. I'm going to try not to worry about water retention until 2 weeks out from the end of my program. That's just a temporary state that can be fixed quickly before my progress pics.

Well, off to the beach for relaxing evening.

Its ok. Changed some things in my life and I am actually taking my exam in HR-managment next year. Feelt like you did at my job 2 years ago and decided to go back to school. Are you still in the installation business? The year after me and Fidel meet you in Miami we wanted to go back but the flight where so expensive that we had to go to Greece instead. :) We had a great time the last couple of days after you had us for dinner and we actually meet J'Lo at a club. But damn I was disapointed. She looked like a midget with a big ass. :) I still hang alot with my old friends and have a girlfriend now days that has calmed me down abit. She is into the fitness thing aswell so we help each other out and sometimes hit the gym together aswell. Life is pretty good I would say.

When did you start letting youself go abit. Not long after our meeting when you changed jobs? Don't think its bad at all for your age. You still look good.

Today is the start of week # 3 It didn't start out all that well. I was running late and didn't have my food prepared, so I grabbed a can of tuna fish and a can of chipped beef. Eating sucked all day. That shit is dry as all hell when you don't dress it up. If you're ever diagnosed with a terminal disease, just go on a mostly protien diet. You won't live any longer, but every day will seem like an eternity.

Actually, that sucked so bad, that I'm not even hungry. It almost 8:00 pm, and I've only got 900 calories in me......... I've got to eat something, go to the gym and get a snack in by 11:00. Maybe I'll stay home tonight and work on my meals. I hate not having my shit together in the morning. I made a turkey burger, and it's going to be work to get it down....yuk

Tomorrow I'll post my stats for the first two weeks, ending yesterday.
I see some improvement, but it's going to be a long road.

I noticed that there's not as much fitness talk here as years past. Seems like everyone spends a lot of time in the Wastelands.....:nono:

Ludvig - I'm eating about 6-7 mini meals a day. Each no more than 300 calories.. It's a low fat high protein program. I'm taking in about 1700-1800 cals / day. Many say it's too low, but I've had good luck with it. I'm not weighing everything I put in my mouth, but I know it's in that range.

Today is the start of week #3 . Today I weighed in this morning at 155... down 7 lbs so far. Waist is 35.5 , down 1.75 in. ( a little disappointing at first, but I'm actually right on track.) Everything is just moving along. If anything is lacking, I haven't been able to do cardio or weights EVERY day, which was a goal from a fitness standpoint. I still workout at least twice a week and getin my cardio 2-3 times / week. This week's goal is to eat a little more and make sure I get to the gym almost every day for weights or cardio.

Lots going on this week. I'm going to try to go into work late this week, so I can put the gym at the top of my list.

I'm hungry is morning...time for so oatmeal.

Sounds intresting. I actually changed my whole diet all over. When from high meal frequency to something called IF intermittent fasting which I think works better then anything I have used before when it comes to gains and controlling cravings. It's alot about timing meals according to needs where you eat most before and after workouts and off days you just eat maintence levels. Also changed workouts so I always strive for progressive gains. The sessions are so sick and hard but I kinda low the totally drained feeling. I never feel hungry now days and don't have cravings at all. You can google for IF just for fun when you feel like it.

You have done great just for a couple of weeks. Will get to your goal easily. :)

Had a real good superset(s) workout of arms today. I REALLY got the pump going. When I thought I was done, I went for more. I realized that I probably don't push myself as far as I'm able to, because today did spent 45 minutes, just on arms. They should toast tomorrow. The pump was a great motivator.

I nicked one of the A/C lines to the house yesterday doing some outside yard work and out went the freon. The house is 93 degrees right now. I hope the A/C guy comes before I pass out. :spaz:

I finally had to break down and buy some protein powder. I just don't have time for all this making food shit. 2-3 meals per day I can handle, the rest is gonna have to come from nuts, fruit and shakes.

My tricep weights have improved this past week. I'm almost to where I should be. The chest, back and lats are still lagging though.

Today I had an unexpected detour ( not too bad) off diet. Had the opportunity, so my son and I hopped in the convertible and went to Wings for dinner. I picked off all the skin and yes, I had a draft Yuengling's.....and I'm not going to feel guilty about it:nope:

The cut resumes tomorrow. No more cheats. We did have a good time, though.

I'm a bit sore from the arm supersets I did yesterday, but what really has me sore is my abs! I'm just as sore in the abs as I am in the arms. Guess it makes sense when you thing about it.

I stepped on the scale this morning.....151 lbs.. THAT MADE MY DAY !!! I can't friggin believe that I'm 11 lbs lighter in 17 days ! I don't care how much is water weight, I'm feelin' good about everything today. I was feeling like yesterday's one beer might come back and bite me in the ass, as it might weaken me for tonight, where I have to watch my wife partake in Friday's Wine Night. Thankfully, all thoughts of compounding yesterday's cheat have vanished. Every once in a while you need a boost to keep you going. Well, today, that weigh in was it for me. I'm still at the same waist measurement, but my rib bones are starting to peek through. I tend to lose at the waist line last.

Well, just finished the last job for today. It's off to the beach for a swim and a relaxing evening with the wife on the porch.

Life is good again. :tucool:

Back from the beach. Ended up staying overnight both Friday and Saturday. The nights are just amazing there.

Yeah, when I look back at past cuts, they seem pretty successful. But, when you're in the middle of one though, it doesn't always seem like you're making progress. I can't believe I'll be doing this into October. That's a LONG time !

We went shopping yesterday for protein powder, chicken breasts, fruits, veggies...... I need to spend part of today packing up lunches for the week.

Went for a 4 mile walk/run this morning. Think I'll work on the yard today and then hit the gym later on for some light weights on the legs.

I fell kind of out of it today....no energy....no apetite.

I'm not feeling any hunger today, and my calories have been going lower and lower over the past few days. A man can eat just so much protein before he starts to go batty. Besides my morning oatmeal, I'm not consuming any other sizeable carbs , aside from some fruit and veggies.....maybe 100g a day of carbs...not enough.

I'm going to make a small flank steak tonight and have a sweet potato and salad. Maybe that will kick me into wanting to eat again....

I made chicken parmesian for the kids tonight, and I ate my steamed chicken and broccoli....OK, I had one bite off the kids' plate. :D

Starting to see my rib cage again. From here on, is the most rewarding part. Good visible changes should happen on a weekly basis.

Today is the end of my 4th week of cutting. Today's weight in has me at 150.....only 1 lb down from last week, but 12 lbs total in the month.

My waist measure 34 1/2 " this morning, a 1/2 " less, and making it 2 3/4 " for the month.

Not bad......guess it's going above average for me. I had a big drop in weight last week, but this week's is less impressive. It'll all even out in the end.

This week I looking at doing 1 hour of fasted cardio each morning, something I haven't been doing consistently.

I day down, 6 to go:tucool:

Did an hour of fasted cardio yesterday and today. It's actually not bad doing the fasted thing, because it gets me out of the house quick ( so I can eat afterward)
plus, I enjoy watching the Olympics at the gym for a hour before work. diet has been spot on, and my prepared meals are getting tastier (and spicier).

I do thing this whole cutting thing makes me crabby, but I dealing with it.

Brown rice and chicken tonight, w/ a tbl. spoon of Toshi's teriyaki sauce.

5 days to go this week.

I'm really starting to like the fasted cardio in the morning. I don't know what I'll watch once the Olympics are done....

I'm going to keep this routine up through Sunday. Then, next week I'll add some calories and an afternoon weight session x4 days, I think.

Cardio for an hour this morning. Also got in 2 gallons of water today. I'll try to continue that level for the next 3 days, while eating low sodium. I think I'm retaining a bit of water because IMHO I should be looking better than I am at this point, and the diet/exercise is spot on. By diet, I mean calorie count and macros, but not necessarily sodium. I use soy sauce quite a bit to spice up chicken and beef. It keeps me eating clean by making my food tolerable, and yet any water retention is easily fixed in a day or two....or three.

Starting to get to bed earlier these days, as the mornings are just crazy. It takes me about 30 minutes to finish packing foods up for the day, then I get my fasted cardio done at the gym, then eat breakfast, and get to work at a decent time (9:30 -ish). I just don't have it in me the past few days to get stuff ready the night before. Glad the weekend is coming, I can spend soe time making food for next week.

I'm getting in about 4 3/4 miles in during cardio. I hope to get that up to 6 in the same amount of time within a month. Starting next week I'll start a 3 day split with weights in the afternoon, and add a few calories pre and post workout on those days.

Everything feels right and I'm on track.....something's gotta give.

Anyway, today is the beginning of my 6th week. My stats for the end of 5 weeks of cutting are:

waist: 34 in. down 3 1/4 " from July 14th

Weight: 150 lbs. Still down 12 lbs. At the end of next week I'll post progress pics

Weight has been kinda flat the past week. This week I start a 4 day split in addition to fasted cardio. I may look closer at calories and make sure I'm not taking in too much, because I don't ever seem to be hungry, which doesn't seem right. I think I'll start posting my fitday macros ASAP.

Hope the gym is open this morning.....we're still in caution mode due to tropical storm Faye.

This week is going to be real strict. I've got another weights workout planned for this afternoon (heavier). I'm going to try to be in the gym for 2 hours / day this week. Not all heavy, some may be just working on some very light shoulder work, core building. Got to get that metabolism going this week.

I saw a pretty HUGE guy today at the gym, doing cardio ........it was the slowest walk I've ever seen.....can that really burn any fat ??? Maybe he was just bored and needed something to do.

Upped my vitamin C intake to 1000 mg / day....

Yesterday I worked out very heavy, and I'm sooo sore today. I guess I learned something, in that what I thought was moderate to heavy in the past, wasn't. I kept in to about 6 reps, and it made a big difference in my DOMS. I think I'll do that more often, though I don't think I'll be able to go back to the gym 'til Sunday, because of the soreness. More intense, but less workouts in a week........not sure how that trade off will work out, but I'm going with it for now. It's a time saver, if nothing else.

I'm getting excited to add mass and eat more, but I'm not quite wher I need to be yet. From the looks of things, I'll need another 3 weeks, and I'll be < 10%..

It seems like it took a bit longer this time, but then again, I was pretty tubby......realistically, I would say I was at 18%. Doesn't sound awful, but almost all of it was belly fat......must just be my genetics...

No cheat or beer tonight.... it looks crappy out, so we're not going to the beach toinght. The place is still shuttered up from the hurricane scare this week. Maybe next week I'll open it up again and have a nice meal on Friday evening.

We went food / COSTCO shopping yesterday, so I'm set to make food(s) for the week today. I'm STILL sore from Thursday's workout, but I think I'll resume my weight training at the gym today.

Two more days and I'll have been at this for 6 weeks ....... half way there !! If I get dowm to 7-8 % in that time frame, I swear, I'll never let myself get over 11 % again ....EVER. It's such a waste....you cut, you lose some muscle mass and have to work than much harder again to get it back. At my age, it's getting harder and harder to come back each time.

Busy day today..I'm up and out early. Did my hour of cardio and will do a weights workout on the way home from work today.

Diet was perfect all weekend. Tomorrow I'll be posting my six weeks progress pics. Making good progress, but the next 2-3 weeks are going to be the best. The hard part is over. It's very motivational at this point, because noticeable changes happen weekly.

Gotta drink my water today. Hoping to flush out a little for my pics. Got a little sun in this weekend. I can't believe that the long weekend is NEXT week !!

My buddy wants me to help him brew a batch of beer next weekend. We've been doing that for years. I've been putting him off, because you know what that means....I have such low willpower in the area:o

I've only had 2 beers in 6 weeks.....I really shouldn't even be in the same room with beer.

Ready to knock out the week and maybe have a nice cheat meal next weekend. "Season" in Florida is about to start, which means the snowbirds will soon be here, and my life will again turn frantic.

Yesterday was the end of 6 weeks of cutting. This morning's stats are:

Waist: 33 1/4 " down 3"

Weight 148: down 14 lbs.

I can't get the lighting right for the pics, not even natural light this morning....but here they are anyway..

Gotta get to the gym ....busy day today. Got lots of work to finish up this week, so I can possibly take Friday off for the long weekend.

Also, I'm having some rock delivered for the driveway at the
beach :claphigh:

What a day today. Yesterday I had orderd 5 yds of Chattahoochi rock for my driveway at the beach house. So, this morning, knowing that I'd have to meet the guy over there for the delivery, to went to the gym first. I had a REALLY mad workout. I really went crazy on upper body, lifted very heavy, and did arms supersets to absolute failure. So......... I get to the beach, and as I turn onto my street (the guy was supposed to call me a half hour before he arrives) I see the guy leaving, and a HUGE pile of my rock in the street, totally blocking the street. Without the assistance of a wheel barrow, I had to shovel it onto the driveway....all 5 yds !!

I thought my arms would fall off !! After 3 hours of that in 90 degree temps, I went to work........which was an incredibly physically demanding day. I blew through my prepared meals by noon, and made protein shakes for the afternoon. I think I can eat anything I want for dinner and I'll still have a 1000 calorie deficit for the day.

Definitely a jacuzzi tub night for me. My rotators are on fire !!

Anyway, no gym tomorrow...or the next day for that fact.

Driveway looks good. I have a little extra rock , which I'll use on the other side of the house.

A quick meal, soak in the tub, and I'm in bed...

More craziness today. I'm really getting a great workout at work these days. I've been taking the oportunities during the day to make sure I get a good workout.

Today I was bringing two 5 gallon pails of beach sand from the beach to about 200 yds away, and I found myself shugging them as I walked. Hey, it's gotta be done, I might as well get a good workout at the same time:lol:

I had a beer tonight. The urge came out of nowhere, but I worked WAY more than the calories I took in today, and I was toasted. It's good to stray once in a while.....just don't let it get out of control.

Just having a chicken breast tonight, and then hitting the bed. \

I'm not as sore as I thought I'd be after shoveling all that rock. Hey, maybe I'm actually getting into decent phyiscal shape !?

If I'm still not sore tomorrow, I plan a workout with weights for Friday.
Then, it's off to the beach for 3 days for a well deserved rest ( and moderate cheat meal)

Next weekend I start my kite boarding lessons.....can't wait

Keep up the good work :D

Today will be a rest day from the gym. I've been so active with only about 1750 cals per day, that I think any additional work will be detrimental to my cut. I'm in need of a recovery day.

Hope to pull a long day today and position myself to only work 'til noon on Friday....and start the long weekend.

Later all.

I can't believe that everything went as planned today. I'm all set to start the long weekend tomorrow at noon. Off to the gym early for a weights workout, then to an easy job at work, and off to the beach. Got everything packed and I'm ready for some good food this weekend. Actually, it'll be pretty healthy too. We usually go for lobster, or prwans and maybe some lean beef.

Diet was great today. I didn't log it into fitday, but I had a couple of chicken breasts, a couple of apples, oatmeal, a protein shake, and now I'll have a small portion of beef stew and I'll be all set. The waistline is really coming along. I can feel the differecne in my clothes. I'm going to have to lay out everything and sort out my pants for the coming year. So much of what I have is going to be garbage, because most are a 34" waist. It's not worth buying anything new until I see what the final ( and sustainable) result is. Probably 31-ish.

ABGuy, I've just spent some time reading your journal, at least since your return, and your dedication is very motivating.

You're doing great and I have no doubt that you'll continue to do so until you reach your goal.

Thanks, Seltzer :tucool:

Just got back from a weekend at the beach. The waves were CRAZY !!!!
(Gustav)

I body surfed on Sunday from 9:45 am - 6:00 pm.....with breaks for carbs and a shake.

It was the most fun this ol' man has had in a long time. My oldest was out there for a bit, but it was too rough for my little fellar (12).

Actually, you really had to watch yourself. The current was strong and the waves were so powerful. It was a blast. Even though I had a few beers yesterday, and ate whatever I felt like last night, I must have burned 3500 calories out there.

If all goes well, and Hanna misses us, I'll be taking my kite boarding lessons next weekend. If that goes well, and I feel it's appropriate for my 16 yr old, he'll take lessons the following weekend. It consists of two hours on land, learning how to control the kite, and two hours in the water. I'm 15 pounds lighter now, and ready for the challenge.

Back to my cutting diet as of now. No regrets this weekend, I had an absolute blast. Having a few beers was good, but somehow, it wasn't "to die for" like I thought it would be.

I took a quick weight check this afternoon. It looks like I might be down a pound from Thursday. I'm probably a bit dehydrated, between the excercise and the beers, but either way, no big damage done, and I'm ready to knock out the last 5 weeks.

Had a good upper body (what else) workout this morning. Back to my cutting diet.

After getting some customers set for the storm(s), I got an hour of sun on the beach.

Today is also the end of the 6th week of my cut. My stats this morning were:

Height: 5' 9" weight: 148 (down from 164 ) Waist: 33 1/2 " (down 3 3/4 " from the start) Bf : 12-ish (approx)

Today is the start of my 7th week of cutting. I'm getting a little anxious......I want results....NOW !!!

I have to keep reassuring myself that I'm on pace, but it's starting to seem a bit slow. The later weeks are where you should be seeing serious changes, week to week. I had hope to see more rib cage by week 7, but I guess that's how it goes sometimes. My lower gut is always the last to go. Some guys have abs at 12 % bf, but that's just not my genetic make up. I'm going to need < 10 %.

After looking at my cut pics, I think the biggest change was from about the second week to the end of the 6th... here's a comparison..

I had another great workout today. I think I'm gaining strength now.....it was stalled for a while, but I'm eating a little more and I can feel the difference at workout time. Less than 5 weeks left...I've got to get my ass in gear if I want to hit my goal by then. Gotta stay active, more so than diet watching (though that's importanat too). I'm pretty good on the diet, but sometimes my workouts, IMO, aren't hard enough. I wish I could do legs, that would burn so much more calories.....but I just can't. My knees are really bad. :(

As you can see, I'm just blabbering to get myself psyched for these last 5 weeks. It would be great to be sub 10% for the holidays and be able to eat without guilt for once.

Been increasing my fat intake (almonds, mainly) the past few days....maybe too much....they're so good, though.

Hey Mike. I just started about 2 weeks ago, using the ab machine at the gym. I'm trying to use it each time I go to the gym, whether I'm there for cardio or lifting.

I guess it'll help tone me up a bit more, though I've always relied on my lifting to tone my abs. It's funny (well not really), but as small as I'm getting, there are still no signs of abs yet (see pics)..... WTF ?? Only answer is that I'm not there yet. It seemed faster last time, but I really don't remember.... I have 5 more weeks to hit my mark within 12 weeks.. How long did you stay on SGX ?? Where did you end up at the end ?

OK, today IS a better day. Looks like hurricane Ike isn't going to be as big of a deal....big relief !!

I discovered that I like cottage cheese. I never tasted it until I was 47 yrs old !! It's good, and good for ya. I bought a vat of the fat free stuff and add it to my ground turkey and tomato paste concoction, add a few whole wheat pasta noodles, some parmesean cheese and viola ! ...healthy lasagna !

I've decided to bring my calories down, just a bit. Maybe I'm too anxious, but it's not moving along fast enough for me. I don't ever seem to be hungry, so I don't see the harm. I'm going to try it for a week. It is coming along, though. Yesterday I restricted water pretty good, and this morning my waist was 33 EVEN !!

That 4 1/4 " ....GONE:D

Once I hit 31.5 ", I'll take another look at my goals.

A much better day today. Off to the beach for some swimming. It's a beautiful day today in South Florida :claplow:

Yes, cottage cheese IS amazing... It's like FF milk, with less simple sugar carbs. It's a godsend too, because I'm getting a little burned out on chicken and beef. Now I can make some nice whole wheat pasta dishes.....

I had few days of massive uncertainly with my cutting program, but I think I'm over the worst of it. The thing is, as you progress, you have to be open for tweeking your program and sometimes it a matter of trying things. After taking a hard look at everything I'm doing, I feel better. I think in about 2 more weeks, I might try Swole's "7 days to leaness" plan.....'cause I think my main problem is that I'm retaining water (I like salt ! It's about the only luxury I have left)

Off to the beach again :tucool: gotta get that tummy tanned for pics real soon :tucool:

I was in Florida last week and the waves were large from Hanna being offshore. Seriously, you're making nice progress, but I understand your frustration as changes slow. Stay with it and only good things will happen. Also, send some of your dedication northward about 1200 miles northward on I 95 to me, I've been waning of late.

Thanks for the words of encouragement, Seltzer. It seems like a longer haul to get to my goal this time.. Must be age creeping up on me.

From what I've seen from your pics, you can afford to wane a bit. :tu:

It's probably not waning, though, it's probably "having a life". Now that I've gotten this far and past the hard part, I too need to factor in a little balance and fun for long term success.

Seltzer
Mon, September 8th, 2008, 10:41 AM
While I'm usually dedicated to the process, I'm also a big fan of balance. In the long run I believe that I'm better off that way and it increases the odds of me achieving what I want and holding on to it, but that outlook doesn't preclude the fact that at times I'm really dialed in.

No cheat tonight.....I'm just not feelin' it, so why waste it.

I ordered a new printer from Costco Wednesday night, and it arrived today.....that's amazing...I love shopping via the internet.

$69 - bucks for an All-in-one color printer, scanner, copier and fax...all color. (laserjet, of course for that price)

It's great !! Just finished the set up...no problems, even though some reviews on the internet said it was a nightmare.

I'm interested in the scanning function, so i took a quick scan.. Here's a look at the Abguy at his 10th grade prom....I look 12 years old.....I'm actually 16 in that picture. Can you believe it ?

Had a nice weekend. I relaxed the diet (just a little), but mostly had a few beers. 4 on Saturday and 4 on Sunday. It does wonders to relieve the stress of everything on my plate these days. Now I'm ready to knock out my last month of cutting.

Had a bad diet yesterday....I had (ok, two...) big bowls of Lucky Charms last night ...WTF ?? Where did that urge come from ?

Anyway, no more cheats this week. On a postive note, my waist is 32" this morning!!! I'm almost there... I can tell that progress is starting to drag.

Gotta get to the gym today....I'm over the cutting....can't wait to start bulking..

Wow, 10 days w/o an update. I actually took a week off and ate pretty good, but I did consume some alcohol. It's strange, but I don't think I did any damage. I am actually lighter and better cut than I was 2 weeks ago.....hmmmm.

Anyway, two final weeks to go..... I'm currently 145 lbs, and 31.5 " waist. I think at 143 lbs I'll be there....around 8 % . I hope to get under 31" in the waist....we'll have to see if that's in the cards.

Man, I don't even know what to say.......OK, I've gone to shit.

Today is day 7 of an all-out 90 day attack, which includes cardio, lifting and diet.

I've almost written a comeback post a hundred times, but knew I really wasn't committed.

Well, here we are. Not gonna be much fun. I can handle the diet and exercise, but my daily stress levels are tough.

I haven't EVER been at this high of a bf %...... it's time for a change. I've got an important event on August 8th, and need those abs back.

WARNING: the "before" pics aren't pretty !

Lots of hunger pains today

It's hard. It's harder over the weekends...too much time on my hands.

Hey, Brian. Hope you're hanging in there.

When I first saw your current pics, my first thought was to give you the "Bad Cop" approach and say

Dude, you got fat !

But then I thought, no, that's what Doordude would have said and I need to be more supportive.

But seriously, you are a master at the art of cutting and I know you'll get your namesake abs back in time and with dedication. And this time you'll keep them. It's that getting and keeping differentiation that's important.

Have a good week-end. :tu:

You always looked so damned amazing, but I have to say that it's good to know I'm not the only one who slips backward. :o Dang, you really don't have that far to go! Since you came back, I keep reminding myself that you WILL do this, and I don't want to look at your rockin' body in a few months and know that I had the same amount of time as you but have nothing to show for it. So, you've been in the back of my mind lately. :D

Thanks, LSC. WE can do this !! I've gotten used to failing after a few weeks for so long, that I start to doubt whether I can stick with it to the end, but I'm going to try my best. Just think, at the beginning of August it could all be history, and there will still be a month of great summer weather out there to enjoy the fruits of our labor.

This morning I made a great low cal omlette....2 eggs, 2 egg whites, 'shrooms, onions, fat free cheese and ham.... under 300 calories and 5g fat...yes !!!

Also, my salmon meal from Thursday.

Did all my shopping and cooking for the week already, so it's time to enjoy a nice leisurely day....

Today I can finally get back to the gym...DOMS have subsided, finally.

I'm going to try to incorporate a Lean Cuisine meal into my daily cutting menu. I know the some think that Lean Cuisine meals are lame, but it helps extend to the number of home made meals I go through in a week. And actually, they're pretty low in sat fat, sodium, etc... whatever....call it laziness.

I made the kids breakfast for dinner last night, it's always a big hit. Man, the bacon was tempting, but I didn't go there.

Ah, Doordude.....brings back memories:lol:

I DID get fat CG, that's the fact.

You're right, though, it's keeping it off that counts.

Once I get to where I need to be, I really have to work at some kind of balance.....this back and forth thing accomplishes nothing.

I'm more proud of curbing the alcohol thing than the eating. The energy I now have after 6 pm is amazing. I may have to get a second job :D

Agreed. That's great that you were able to get over that. A beer belly on an Abguy just doesn't work. :o

As for the second job, go for it. I've got three (sort of). My regular sales/marketing job, school board, and instructor at the gym. Those other two don't pay much but they are very fulfilling. And since our only son is grown up and about to enter the military, I don't feel like I'm taking time away from the family.

I have to say, I make the BEST chicken chow mein. Some of my veggies were going bad, so I whipped up a batch for tomorrow's meals. AND it's all proten and veggies, and a little sodium, but that's OK, water retention is a temporary condition.

Onions, celery, peppers, bean sprouts, water chesnuts, shrimp and chicken, oyster sauce, soy sauce, thicken with a little corn starch.....no rice, no noodles, just eat it as is.....I can't wait until tomorrow. Unfortunately, I'll be eating it for 4 days...I made sooo much.

It was a rest day today. After dinner the boys and I are going to do some yard trimming and then sit down for that Brad Pitt movie....Benjamin...Somebody ??

Tomorrow is two weeks....I think I'm down around 9 pounds, but obviously a lot of that is water.......about 18-20 to go..

ABguy

Had a hungry moment last night....I worked through it though, I went to bed

Today is two weeks.. My weight this morning was 157 .....I'm actually down 11 pounds so far. That'll start to crawl now, now that all the water weight is gone. That's OK, 20 lbs more lbs sounds so much more reasonable, and doable.

My menus have gotten kind of redundant, but that's because my cookng last week was in such huge amounts I have massive leftovers.

Anyway, it's all about gone now, and I can focus on different foods.

Today is a weight day. I'll add a post workout protein shake to today's fitday menu.

Friggin rain again for like the fourth day in a row !!

Couldn't get all my work done today because of the rain, so I just surfed the web for most of the day....what a waste.

Now I've got the jitters, so I'm going to the gym and do some cardio, and watch some TV, I guess.

Why do schools give their tests AFTER the kids come back from vacation ?? My oldest has tests all next week, so we've got to waste a good portion of the weekend getting ready for that. What if we really DID have a life ?? What if we had plans for the weekend? Then what ? hmmm...??

Walked 7 miles today at the gym, while I watched TV. That just doesn't seem right, does it. ?

I'm still bored....tried to rent The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons to watch with the kids, but the selections were all picked over. Maybe there'll be something good on the pay channels, but I doubt it.

Hi Brian. Hope it has stopped raining there. Indiana has been warm and sunny all week-end.

Going to listen to the Indy 500 later today. (I'm so close to the track that the TV broadcast is blacked out here.) We don't get to see the race until 7 pm tonight. I may actually take a 5 mile walk during the race.

Not sure where you got the GA. I've always lived in Indiana.

Just got back from teaching my class. Only 4 women showed up. But for a Sunday afternoon on a holiday weekend, that's probably not too bad. And I get paid as long as one person shows up. If no one shows, I still get paid 1/2.

All this exercise is allowing me to eat whatever I want, and I'm still losing weight. Yesterday, I was 167# which makes me mad. I'd like to be 185# but that will probably never happen unless I try it your way, which I'm sure you wouldn't recommend.

Indiana, really ?? I don't know where i got that from...

Yeah, it was pretty empty at my gym today too.

It's just me and the kids this weekend (wife's out on business) so my
neighbor friends invited me for dinner. I wanted to go, but was worried about going off my diet. So I get there and they're serving fillet mignon,
jumbo shrimp, salad, and freshly sliced fruit for dessert. :tucool:

Of course, I had to be anal and run back home for my Waldon Farms no calorie salad dressing, but everything was delicious, and I couldn't have planned a better meal myself. It was a very nice night.

Tomorrow should be a nice day tomorrow (at least in the morning). I'm gonna get some sleep and get up early for a long walk on the beach in the morning.

Man, it's another not so nice day...I don't care though, I'm leaving for a long walk on the beach, even though it'll probably end up raining on me.

I've got one more holiday bar-B-que to get through today.... I left myself about 800 calories in my meal plan for whatever I might encounter at the get together.

The 4 eggs in the plan are actually the 8 deviled eggs that I plan to eat. I think there's some grilled pork in the plan, and whatever. I'll try to get all my choices in the protein area, if I can.

I've got two more weeks before my first official weight in and the completion of 1/3 of my program. I'm looking to be ahead of pace, and feeling pretty good at where I'm at this far. Wow! Do I sense some optimism ?

Have a great day everyone !

This morning I will try something new with my weight training. I don't seem to be able to get DOMS in my biceps when doing either supersets of arms, or just biceps. I'd say I do a pretty rigorous workout on them, about 8 reps to failure and about 5 sets, but....nothing.

Today, I will try to go super heavy (for me, at least), and lift for a longer duration and see what happens. I think I'll try pyramids, gradually lessening the weight to failure, until I can barely pick up a pencil when I'm done. Not sure why I'm never sore there, but it bugs me. My biceps have always lagged and never seem to change in size no matter what everything else does. So we'll see if I can get a rise out of them this week.

Starting to think about the end of my first month already and I've still got 11 day to go :spaz: It sure feels like longer than that so far. I should be in a very good spot by then, and still have 60 days left to improve further.

I went to bed hungry last night. That doesn't happen very often, but I had a serious craving to make some sour cream dip and open a bag o chips. Lucky for me, I'm out the second my head hits the pillow.

I exited to get to the gym today. THAT doesn't happen very often !!

ABguy

I'm roasted. Really did some intense lifting today, focusing on biceps. I'm hungry, and tired. I feel dietary weakness coming on....think I'll hit the hay early tonight.

It's that kind of hunger that the addition of 200 extra calories wouldn't even begin to fix. So, might as well have nothing . Well, at least I'm on track.

My shoulders / rotators are very sore this morning. Think I've got to lay off the push ups. My biceps, though, .....nothing....yet. If I don't get DOMS in my arms by tomorrow, there's something wrong with me.

155 lbs this morning...again, but that's OK. Waist is down to 35.25 ". There's still a lot of fat to go...it all still jiggles....

Yesterday was a real bad day for cravings, but I powered through it. Today's gotta be better.
