View Full Version : No carbs after 2pm/6pm?
Ark Fri, October 24th, 2008, 05:10 PM Hi, I have a doubt here, I was told that one must not eat carbs after 2pm, but another friend told me 6pm, is this true ? thatīs because after mid-day our body stores more fat out of carbs, or that is what I heard.
thanks
George Fri, October 24th, 2008, 05:16 PM This is kinda an old wive's tale. Your body doesn't magically change the way it processes carbs due to the time of day.
That being said, some people find it beneficial to center carb intake around their activity. Usually pre/post workout and also with the first meal of the day.

Utterly ridiculous on both accounts. Everyone knows it's no carbs after 8:47 PM, unless it's raining outside. ;)
Seriously though, this is nothing but a gimick used to control overall intake. If you take a way an entire macro group after a certain time, people generally eat less. Nothing magical going on here.
Ark Sun, October 26th, 2008, 12:51 AM This issue is touched right at the end of this article (http://www.shapefit.com/late-night-snacking.html) which is at the same time discussed in this thread (http://forums.johnstonefitness.com/showthread.php?t=45173). Author says at the very end, eating carbs after 6pm is not a good practice. I see a controversy around this whole topic.

Hopefully the litmus test goes a little beyond whether you can find an article on the Internet claiming something to be true.
Website needs to produce new articles with new "information" to keep readers coming back. You can only fill up so many pages with "train progressively heavier and don't eat like crap".
How would this change your eating pattern if you were to put it into effect? That's what you need to look at. Again, mostly a gimmick in an attempt to make people eat less/better.
Most people don't replace the calories from the cake, ice cream, chips, and cookies they eat while sitting in front of the television at night with chicken breasts and broccolli; they just eat less. :)
Phillyp Sun, October 26th, 2008, 02:36 AM Possibly the best advice someone might be able to give you is try for yourself, from what I have researched it doesn't really make a difference, your body burns calories no matter what state it is in, even when you are sleeping.
At about 5:30 I have a meal that has complex carbs one hour before I lift, after my work out ill have a protein shake (still up in the air about adding simple carbs) and have my dinner with some veggies, which is usually my last meal about an hour after my lifting.
This gives me a good amount of energy to get my weights done, without it I don't seem to last as long or be able to lift as heavy.
I have had good results losing body fat this way.
Hope this helps some, but i agree with most of the posters in here that it doesn't matter when you eat them as long as you are smart about it and stick o your macros and eat similar size meals throughout the day.
Robert2006 Sun, October 26th, 2008, 03:39 AM Time makes no sense. What happens if you work nights? Is that why vampires only snack on necks?
