After 2 months losing weight consistantly I'm thinking about switching up my diet.

Starting weight 240 now 217

Diet had been around 1300-1400 calories, never going over 1500- it wasn't easy thats why I'm thinking about this change.

Work out has been 40-80 minutes of stationary bike in 20 minute sets at 15-16 mph and 60-100 push ups sets of 20
Working out 3 times per week-

Old diet had a lot of variety with Chicken breast/tuna/salad/fruits/veggies etc.

I love chicken breast and was just thinking about doing 1 8 oz chicken breast for 4 meals.
each 8 oz is 220 calories 2.5 fat 42 protein-
with each chicken breast I was going to add one item 100 calories or less (banana/apple/salad/fat free yogurt)
This would put me around 1300 calories

I also been drinking a cup of 0% fat free milk with nitrean to get 32 protein two times day which is 400 more total calories- should I stop drinking this?? - I am trying to lose fat and weight at the moment, I do consider myself to be solid for 217 and don't want to lose the muscle I have.

I've been trying to get around 1 gram of protein per lb, is that too much? too less?

So now I would be up to 1700 calories eating a lot of chicken- which I do love

Any opinions/suggestions on eating this much chicken would be greatly appreciated.

at 217 and 1300-1700 cals you are WAY under eating in my opinion. You might want to work some calculations and see where a more reasonable caloric range would be. I'm slowly cutting on 2400 cals and I'm 190. You might be doing more harm than good by under eating.

You are correct that is your opinion. :tucool:

I am 195lbs or less and I NEVER eat over 1850 calories.

Mon- 1200-1250
Tue- 1300-1350
Wed- 1400-1450
Thu- 1500-1550
Fri- 1600-1650
Sat 1700-1750

Everyone does their own deal. Just my opinion aswell.

I agree you could eat a significantly more. And besides pushups, are you doing anything else to retain your muscle mass as you cut?

Cardio+low calories+no resistance training=skinny fat. You burn off as much or more muscle as fat and end up just looking smaller but still soft, and are prime for a rebound in weight because you have killed your metabolism.

Chicken is fine, but it's nice to mix up the protein sources. Get some red meat, some eggs, some turkey, and some fish in there occasionally. They all have other good nutrients you need in the mix.

And don't fear fat content too much. You need it for hormone production.

What you do = What you eat (Mannish is that what you mean?)

I only workout 3 days a week weight lifting ONLY. 30 minutes or less each day. So I would not have much input on those people that workout all week.:tucool:

i dont think that is "too much chicken" but i think you definitely need to get more fat in ur diet.

fish oil capsules, flax seed, or cooking in olive oil seem like viable options for ya.

Not really what I meant, I was replying directly to the first post in that even doing what he's doing, my personally opinion is that eating that little just speeds up muscle wasting. I'm of the mind to eat as much as I can and still keep the weight coming off. Steady long term progress is more maintainable once the weight is off vs massive initial caloric drops that waste lean mass.

The main point I wanted to get across that cardio and pushups isn't what I'd spend most of my time doing.

But, as you said, we have different opinions.

Low calorie dieting is like the subway -- it's only useful if you know where to get on and when to get off.

If you've been sustaining this deep of an energy deficit for 2 months, I'd bring things up ~2200 calories for a couple weeks with a well balanced diet from quality whole food sources. I'm not talking about two weeks worth of "cheat" meals and crap here.

Something to think about, especially since a well rounded resistance training program does not appear to be present to aid in lean body mass preservation.

What are your options in this regard?

I guess when I wrote that I wasn't accounting for overall lifestyle too. work etc. I work a pretty physical job, so obviously I have more need for fuel, so I hear ya, it just seems crazy low to me. I couldn't survive a week eating that much.

Well also lets get back to the question. TOO much chicken a bad thing? YES AND NO.

There have been studies that more than "X" amount of protein would be wasted if you ate that number or more. Protein is very important and to me Chicken is one heck of a great source for me.

I try not get mixed with the whole internet this is better because I said so and I have no proof.

Do I bring a lot to the table? NOPE But I have what knowledge I learned from my short experience.

Just like the whole calorie thing. Its hard for me to eat over 1200 calories with the foods I eat. I am ALWAYS freaking full. Hope this helps with the question.
