View Full Version : Post workout meal or drink?
cwbolton Fri, October 10th, 2008, 02:40 PM i was Just wondering, what is better straight after a workout. Food or a protein shake i usually have food and i just bought my protein today and whilst thinking about it, doesn't a drink seem a bit meagre? Will it satisfy me
I have just bought multipower formula 80 evolution (chocolate)
It says one serving is 3 spoonfuls would it be ok to have 2 spoon fuls in a shake 2 times a day?
So thats just over one serving or wont there be enough protein in it (80g protein per 100g)
Thanks

What is better post-workout? The answer for me would depend on what you ate before the workout, as well as what you ate the rest of the day (before and after training), as well as what you did in the gym, and what your goals are.
Generally speaking either route can work fine. I usually prefer a shake, but that has more to do with convenience and my laziness. :)
If you find that you want the convenience factor to be there, but you also don't feel that satisfied after just a shake, then try two separate post-workout meals. Immediately after training drink your shake, and then have a whole-food meal with similar macro-ratios a little while later.
If you don't like that route, or don't have time for it, then you could also try combining the two and having a shake mixed with whole foods. This is what I do very often. For example, protein powder mixed in milk and ground oatmeal, and 1 banana on the side. :)

Lol true, but yeah ill try the shake for a while and if i dont like it ill do the oatmeal + protein milk and a banana thing :)
Thanks alot
Also if i make a protein shake, how long will it 'keep' for or do protein shakes last if you know what i mean. Example if i make a shake monday afternoon for tuesdays workout would that be ok? For the convinience factor ofcourse :)

That is basically what I do.
Usually after working out I don't really have the appetite for solid foods. I'm hot and still actually pretty full from my pre-work out meal of hashbrowns and eggs and scoop of whey. Mainly from drinking water during my workout and I'm bloated!
After, i'll mix my shake up w/milk and drink it immediately post-wo. About an hour-hour/half after that I usually will eat some solid foods. Generally 1/2cup oatmeal w banana and an hour later I'll have a full meal. It works for myself and my schedule.
If you have a solid pre-wo meal, you're pretty well covered for just drinking a shake post-wo IMO.
