Are cooked beets ok? Normally I'm of the mind set most fruits and vegetables are fine, but now that I've gotten a little more strict I'm avoiding the High GI ones.

I don't think it's a good idea to avoid any fruits or vegetables. :) Just make sure that they fall within your target macros and cals if you choose to track that stuff. Honestly, I think that appraising a food based on it's GI is misguided. Pineapple has a higher GI than ice cream. That doesn't make ice cream a better alternative. ;) guava Tue, October 7th, 2008, 10:45 PM If you're worried about the glycemic index of a vegetable, add some fat along with it. That will reduce the total glycemic load of the meal, significantly blunting the insulin response. I eat beets with a sundried tomato dressing and/or with pecans. Same thing with fruit. If you don't want to spike your blood sugar levels, choose fruits with lots of fibre and/or eat some nuts with them. :eat: Some people say whipping cream is better for a person who is cutting than milk is, so I can see why they might also say ice cream is better than pineapple. Personally, I like them together. |
