View Full Version : Coan Phillipi and..... ?
Foley Mon, October 6th, 2008, 03:27 PM What kind of stuff should I use to complement the Coan/Phillipi Deadlift Program? Should I work Legs, e.g. Squats, on top of the Deadlifts and SLDL?
Any ideas would be appreciated. :)
chicanerous Mon, October 6th, 2008, 03:33 PM Some low volume squatting and then whatever chest and shoulder work you would like. The program takes care of the rest -- though I added just a bit more upper back work later in another session when I ran it.
Foley Mon, October 6th, 2008, 03:38 PM Cheers chico. I was wondering whether the reply would be "do nothing".

Add in 2-3 sets of chinups after deads to take advantage of the myotatic stretch imposed on the biceps with deadlifts. No better time to train the bi's directly....after deads. Your lats will also get some good work in there. ;)
good luck.

Mast,
The program calls for the following:
Deadlift: 1x2
Speed Deadlifts: 8x3
Circuit style consisting of:
Stiff Legged Deads
Bent over Row
Reverse grip Lat Pulldown
Goodmornings
Where would be the best place to include the chinups?
chicanerous Mon, October 6th, 2008, 04:46 PM Mastover, the full program is here: http://tsampa.org/training/scripts/coan_phillipi_deadlift/
I wouldn't add the chin-ups, Foley. Though, if you're particularly well-conditioned and strong on the movement, you could try to do them in lieu of the pull-downs. Otherwise, the rows and pull-downs will be sufficient, IMO.
mastover Mon, October 6th, 2008, 04:56 PM Hey Fellers! :D I thought you guys were looking for alterations to the original C/P program? If not, my bad. I would leave it as is and progress weekly as outlined. If you are, I'd add the chins after the deads and call it a day.
Nowhereman Mon, October 6th, 2008, 10:00 PM So what your final deadlift goal?
Foley Tue, October 7th, 2008, 03:37 AM 172.5kg to 185kg. (400 and something pounds)
