View Full Version : Subway Sangwich
woyman Wed, October 1st, 2008, 10:06 PM So when doing 6 meals a day, would a 6" subway sandwich be considered a small meal or half a 6" subway (I guess a 3") be considered a small meal?
Until now I've been considering half a 6" sub a meal.
Btw, I usually get veggie patty with no cheese on whole wheat, lettuce, tomato, pickles, olives, cucumber, mustard, salt + pepper.
ZJC Wed, October 1st, 2008, 10:37 PM That would all depend on how many calories your trying to consume per day???

ditto the previous poster...
What are the macros you're going for? The sandwich you're describing is mostly high-glycemic carbs and no protein. Check out the stickies on nutrition and plan what your overall goals are. Then you can break that down to six meals. Go for it. This is really rewarding.

Interesting I never considered it from a high-glycemic POV. So what you're saying is even having what I considered to be a fairly healthy sandwich might not be so. I'm learning so much from these forums. Thanks! :tu:
So according to the nutritional info here's what I'm getting:
This is for a 6" veggie patty on whole wheat with veggies.
Calories 390 Calories from Fat 70
Total Fat 8g 12%
Saturated Fat 1.5g 8%
Trans Fat 0g
Cholesterol 10mg 3%
Sodium 1080mg 45%
Total Carbohydrate 56g 19%
Dietary Fiber 8g 32%
Sugars 9g
Protein 24g 48%
I guess the macros I would be going for would be the normal cutting ratio of 40:40:20. Keeping my caloric intake to 2200 a day.
(Still getting used to all the jargon - so excuse me if I'm using them wrong :D)
Does this seem like a somewhat healthy "emergency" alternative?

I would say yes, many of the people here would say no, but hell if your stuck and your choices are this or maccas, I would eat subway anyday.
modmaven Thu, October 2nd, 2008, 08:18 AM 24g protein -- not bad at all. Go for it.
Foley Thu, October 2nd, 2008, 08:36 AM If I was stranded in the middle of nowhere with none of my pre planned meals, then yes. Otherwise, no.

Where is the 24 grams of protein coming from? Is this a veggie patty with soy protein or something like that? I have never seen it in stores and couldn't find it on their website, but I saw a few references to it.
I don't think Subway's "wheat buns" are 100% whole wheat, though they do have twice as much fibre as the white.

Yeah, the veggie patty is like a burger patty, but made with beans, soy and oats I believe. It's one of those things that's not listed on their menu, but if you ask them they always have it. I wasn't able to find the nutrition info on their site, but I've gotten it directly from the store and a couple of sites had it:

Yeah I'm not too crazy about their wheat, but I think it's the healthiest thing they got in terms of breads. Everything else has added sugar or cheese.

What about their wraps or salads?
