View Full Version : Swolecat & Jeremy Likness, Could You PLEASE Critique My Routine To Lose Bodyfat???
millineum man Mon, May 10th, 2004, 01:59 PM Guys, I know your VERY busy, but I would REALLY like to get your advice before starting and making a mistake. I'm 30 years old, 6'3" 260-265lbs and roughly 20% bodyfat. I haven't worked out in 3 years and will start back next week. My goal is to reach 7-8% bodyfat while dieting, naturally. I plan on weight training on Monday(Back & Biceps), Wednesday(Chest, Delts & Triceps), and Friday(Legs) 45-60 minutes each day. Cardio will be done on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday first thing in the AM on a Incline Treadmill for 35-40 minutes a clip starting out and eventually increasing to 45 minutes a day. I'm plan on using a form of Carb Cycling. My semi-goal is to reach 230lbs and 9-10% bodyfat before trying anything drastic to reach 7-8% bodyfat. So on weight training days I'd do something like this. 230lbs x 1.25= 287.5= 290 grams of Protein, 230lbs x 1= 230 grams of Carbs, and 230lbs x .3= 69 grams of Fat. On cardio days, everything would be the same, but the carbs would drop down to half or 115 grams a day. My meals will be either primarily Protein + Carbs during the day and after weight training and Protein + Fat at evenings and nights. HONESTLY, do you think this will work???
karatetricker Mon, May 10th, 2004, 05:07 PM I'm not either of the two guys you mentioned, but I think what you have planned there is a pretty good way to start assuming you know what kinds of foods to eat, and not only how much. I just question the 115g carbs on non-lifting days. I see no problem with lowering them, but that is quite a bit much IMO.

akm3 Mon, May 10th, 2004, 07:10 PM Why don't you try PMing them since you aren't interested in the opinions of the vast majority of the board?

taffer Mon, May 10th, 2004, 07:24 PM your training schedule sounds good, not overtraining at all (which alot of people do at the start)
as long as your diet is good you'll have no probs losing the weight
you have similar stats to when i started (except im 19) but making alot less mistakes! :p
i dont think you need to drop carbs down that much as karatetricker said, you still need them for everyday life! i havent cycled my carbs at all and still gotten great results, you can try it out, but if you feel you are losing too much muscle because of it bring them up again

Akm3, I'd appreciate everyone's input. I'm not picky at all. :D You can never know too much. Especially, when it comes to dieting to keep lean muscle....

If you post a public question, then please ask it so that no one feels alienated or uncomfortable responding. You'll get better results that way. If you have a question that is meant for just a couple of people (as the title of your thread seems to indicate) then please use PM. Thanks.

Better go over to the threads that I saw this morning entitled "Question for John Stone" and "Question for Swolecat" and let those posters know that they should use PM.
JeremyLikness Tue, May 11th, 2004, 12:08 PM Looks like a decent plan. It will only work as well as the effort you put into it - the mental focus you have, the internal decision you make and the drive you have.
You are looking for advice, so please take this as advice and a genuine effort to help. Words reveal a lot about mindset. Your recent post suggests you are more concerned with what others are doing (i.e. tell THEM about the PM) than yourself. I know this was with reference to the post and not your fat loss, but the same mindset is going to apply - make sure you are not doing this to impress others or that you are not excessively worried about how others react. Do this for you, worry about YOU, make sure YOU are doing things right and then don't worry about others being corrected or doing it differently.
You are concerned about making a mistake - wanting to get it right is admirable, but if you go into this with the mentality that you are going to screw up, then you can easily create that reality. Focus on progress, on positive motion.
You mention your goal is dieting. The people I work with who are most successful don't diet. There is a difference between going from 10% to 7% for a photo shoot (that is a diet) and getting to a healthy body fat. Getting to healthy body fat is adopting a health lifestyle. If you are trying to rush it or loose too quickly, you are simply winding up the yo-yo - get ready for a bumpy ride. If, instead, you make choices that you are able to say, "Hey, I can live with this - I don't mind doing this every day" then it is something that you will stick with.
The fact that you called it a semi-goal shows your reluctance to fully commit. There are no semi-goals or half-goals because those just result in semi-action or semi-commitment. Create a goal, stick with it. Don't TRY to reach it, KNOW you will. Try is a WEAK word. Semi is a WEAK word. Start to use strong words and create a strong personality because if you are going to reach your goal, you'll need to have a vision bigger than any obstacles you might face.
Finally, honestly, it doesn't matter if I think it will work. I've seen people do incredible programs that just didn't hack it or succeed. Why? Because THEY weren't sure it would work. Doubt creates self-sabotage. Yes, the routine looks fine, the nutrition looks fine, but those aren't going to reach the result - YOU are going to reach the result. So what you should really be asking is, do you BELIEVE it will work? If you believe, and don't just go through the motions with reservations and skepticisim, you will have dramatic results. If you are unsure of yourself, and not certain you will "make it" then that self-created doubt is only going to slow you down.
Remember, getting fit comes down to a choice. It's not about the weeks, months, calorie counting, workouts, etc. Those are part of the new lifestyle you CHOOSE to live. It only takes an INSTANT to change your mindset, and then the rest doesn't matter because it will snap into place. You can learn how to modify your foods or change your training, what you can't learn is how to believe in yourself and commit to something bigger than what you've been willing to do in the past - that is something you simply have to grit your teeth and DO.

Thanks for checking out my plan of attack! I used some concepts from the zigzag chart you posted on your board. I'll be taking in more carbs on the days I need them(ie.Weight training days). Then, take in lower carbs on the days I don't(ie.Cardio days). The Protein and Fats are kept constant throughout. I've emailed several guys that have said the Carb Cycling worked GREAT for getting them in excellent shape. My main source of Carbs will be Oatmeal, Brocolli, Salad, and Green Beans.

I'm no expert, but aren't broccolli, salad and green beans very LOW in carbs? Kinda weird to group them with oatmeal...

I agree, I'd say other than the oatmeal, those are some pretty poor choices for primary carb sources. They are excellent to eat, but not as a main carb source.

Come on, haven't you learned yet? If you want him to see it, send him a PM.

I really am extremely offended. Maybe I'm not a genius, and maybe I don't even have any suggestions for you, but if you really ONLY want the opinion of TWO people, then send them a PRIVATE message. If you want the opinions of everyone, don't mention any people in particular in the title. You'll get a lot more advice that way.
I really am glad that Jeremy responded in the way that he did. My respect for him has increased tenfold, not that I ever thought that this could be possible. :tu:

Guava, no disrespect bro, but if you don't have anything constructive to add. Then, why even respond? John S, addressed the issue already. It's dead. You have absolutely NO reason to feel offended. If anyone had any advice or a suggestion to add, they were more than free to do so. Karatetricker & Taffer did. I'm REALLY not trying to start anything, but it really has become old. This forum is all about Fat Loss, not e-etiquette.
John Stone Tue, May 18th, 2004, 06:57 AM Come on folks.
MM, stop bumping the thread for SC. PM him if you want. This is silly.

John, I wholeheartedly agree. It is very silly. I came here for diet and training advice only. No drama at all. Consider it a non-issue, sir...
