Good gravy...sure has been a population explosion since I've been gone.

After receiving word about 2 months ago that I'd never workout again, I have reason to celebrate. :claplow:

After an agonizing back injury in November (through which I started and continued a transformation plan), I finally have a light a the end of the tunnel. A specialist I saw this morning was able to do manipulations that freed up a series of locked joints. These joints, when locked, went undetected in the CT scan, and along with a slight degenerative disorder due to normal aging, did NOT show up in the scan. I was misdiagnosed with having a rare and severe degenerative condition.

So after going from 248-205 on my transformation, how much have I gained back?

I've lost another 6lbs!

I attribute this entirely to diet alone. Since I was not able to do my regular cardio and weight workouts (I'm going to need a dozen long-stemmed roses to make up to my equipment for neglecting it), I WAS able to control my weight through diet alone. :eat:

I maintained my diet with as close to a 40P/40C/20F split as possible. It ended up being closer to 45P/45C/10F, and I likely ended up losing a few pounds of LEAN BODY MASS. :( What REALLY sucks is that my resting heart rate USE to be about 45-48, and now it's closer to 55-60. Sedentary by force.

I tell ya, right now I'm a helluva lot more enthusiastic about the prospect of getting back on my workout plan (within a week or two) right now, then when I was almost 250lbs.

I realize I won't make my goal of 180lbs/10%BF on June 30th, but I'm confident I can still make it by August 31st. I'll do a gradual induction phase for workouts (diet is already there) for the first week, then back on track. :bb:

So positive thinking and perseverance is about to pay off...it's important to never give up if an obstacle is thrown at you, or if something looks like it's going to prevent you from reaching your goals or dreams. Relax - it's just a SETBACK. It happens, and the real test is not in the strength of your mind or muscles - but your FAITH.

I remember reading so many of John's journals at the turn of the new year, and he stuck it out. It was just a SETBACK for John, and he's getting back on the horse.

I’ve still got my ‘Fat Ken’ pictures in a folder on my computer, and my wife is ready with the camera for my ‘Fit Ken’ photos this summer. These will be posted together – it’s night and day to look at those old pictures right now, but it should be even more shocking when I reach my goal.

Faith is a great thing…and for the record I owe many thanks to you people, because through all this I never stopped lurking here for the motivation.

Good to hear you're ok! (even though i don't think i knew you before)
What kind of specialist was it?

Right on! I told you nutrition was enough to tide you over. You've made it through what will probably be your lowest point in your loss and you came out 6lbs lighter. Way to perservere ...

Hooray! I like your attitude, Ken. You never lost hope, and you are still confident that you will make your goal by August 31. Yes, faith is an amazing force. Without it, life is such a struggle; but with it, moving mountains seems effortless.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the kind welcome backs.

Filthysock - it was an area chiropractor who is big on manipulations as opposed to long, traditional therapy movements requiring months of visits. My best friend (A Toronto chiro) suggested him. Where I was previously afraid to have someone 'crack my back', I'm now a believer. And it didn't hurt one bit :)

Sludge - you were absolutely right. I fondly remember your comments in my 'sad news' post. I went into pitbull mode with the diet, and came out in better shape than I could have hoped for.

Trinity - thanks for the attitude compliment. Like I mentioned in my original post (http://forums.johnstonefitness.com/showthread.php?t=2673), I promised I'd find a way to be back.

Wow, it just hit me. I only have 19lbs to go! That seems like a cakewalk compared to having been used to saying 'only 70lbs to go'.

I'm glad I did about 3 weeks of solid planning before starting my transformation. If I'd just woke up one morning and decided to do it, I don't think I'd have found the strength or resources to pull off what I did while being injured.

Planning your transformation is such a vital tool. :read:

I guess I'll start seeing you again in the forums!

Quick update to those who offered me the support and guidance...

I've been pain-free for 3 weeks and eased back into a moderated cardio/lifting program. I'm still eating clean, and am hovering around 190lbs. I've decided to go 5 days of cardio, with 3 days of HIIT and 2 days of 45 minutes at a moderate pace.

Pictures WILL be posted hopefully by August 31st, as planned. After that, comes an awkward goal - MAINTENANCE.

I'll keep you in the loop, as promised.

Ken :D
