How good (or bad) are Pretzels (such as Synder's of Hanover mini-pretzels) as a carb source? I noticed John Stone had them occasionally in his meal plans from his first year cutting, and if they are an acceptable carb source I would love to be using them since they are delicious!

Basically about as good as white bread.

(so that means bad)

Really? But the ingredients say that they are made with "unbleached wheat flour"...

Does it say "whole grain"?

Do they have any fiber content? It's like 1g or less IIRC.

No, they don't say whole grain anywhere (is there a difference between whole wheat and whole grain? If so, what?)

Out of the 35g of carbs per serving, 1g is Fiber.

Can you not think of anything healthier?

I eat these all the time. Costco sells them in a big container, and we'll often sit down and have some before bed (heresy, I know). They fill the need for salty carbs without resorting to potato chips or Doritos. In that light, I think they are fine in moderation, since they'll stop you from going to worse food choices. Just try to keep them to 1 or 2 servings a day (2 - 3 oz). you should be fine.

That's fine, but they are basically still high GI and nutritionally empty carbs.

Like anything else, in moderation they won't kill you, but they are not optimal.

Back to the original post, John has said he wouldn't do things the same as he did originally now that's he's more experienced. Lots of stuff I ate a year ago I've learned since isn't as good for achieving my goals as I thought then. But sometimes we have to learn for ourselves and our own experience.

how about some hot air popped popcorn? higher fiber...you can put a little salt on there. and it's darn tasty.
