My family.

My parents are both overweight, and my sister is skinny. They do not understand why I want to obsess over what I eat. They say "you don't need to lose weight", when its not weight I'm concerned about. They don;t understand that I have to be very meticulous about my diet and the macronutrients in it. They say, "just have a bowl of cereal; just have a hot dog - 1 won't hurt". But that mentality is what kills my motivation and diet. I have not succumbed to their pressure, and I definitely do not plan to. But no matter how many times or how in depth I explain it, they just don't understand what my reasons are for doing it. We went to a ball game tonight, and they were eating hot dogs in my face and getting pleasure out of rubbing it in - some family support :\ All I want to do is make a simple lifestyle change and they can't even support that.

It's so frustrating. My dad is threatening me, saying I cannot cook on the stove anymore. It is ridiculous.

By the way, I am making noticeable changes in just the first week alone!

Thanks for your ongoing support..

My parents are almost exactly the same way, but I generally ignore what they say in regards to things dietwise. I don't know your situation, but luckily (for my eating at least) I only live at home for another month until I go back to school :D.

I definitely know where you're coming from though.

I was in a similar situation at first. They just didn't get it. 8 months down the line they've seen what it's done for me and have accepted that what I do is working - and even my dad has been inspired by me to do the same. Just keep at it and they'll eventually come around.

I also go back to school in a month, where I will be cooking my meals every day! Don't get me wrong, I love them, but God, they are annoying. Hopefully they will understand down the road, as they did for you..

You seem to have healthy stats at 5'11 and 178. And your parents might be right: "just have a bowl of cereal; just have a hot dog - 1 won't hurt". For those of us who have become overweight probably didn't become so by eating just 1 of anything. But i think you should be able to decide for yourself how you should eat, parents shouldn't limit you to their ways. Any chance you could try to influence them on being more healthy?
