Bumpers would be awesome to own. Too bad they're so expensive.

$160 for a pair of 45's.:(

That's excluding the shipping.

I want to buy a pair so I can put them on the stone trainer. Atlas stones are ridiculously expensive ($500 for a 220 pounder) so this is still a better alternative.

I got this set for $999 with shipping included:

Looks like they have marked it up...probably costs more for shipping now...

My pair of 25s were 99 shipped. I think a pair of 45s is 139 shipped. Check out pendlay's weightlifting site, wichita falls weightlifting. Really, really good prices.

One more thing. Bumpers are cheaper than rehabilitating an injury or buying a new floor :) i only need a pair of 45's and another pair of 25's and i will be able to add iron weight to that if i need to ever go heavier; bumpers will usually handle the same amount of weight they are on the bar in addition to what they weigh without a problem, just as long as it's a smaller diameter

No, 45s are $160 (off of Wichita Falls Weightlifting) and the colored pairs are $204 shipped. I'm going to get a pair of colored for my birthday although I'll probably have to pay half. Maybe I should just get 25kg bumpers, they are only $20 more. What do you think?

Matt, if you could answer this question, I've never really understood. What's the difference between using horse stall matting and a wooden base for your flooring? Can you drop bumpers on concrete?

Also, why would you want to get anything but 45 pound bumpers? You can always fit iron plates on - assuming they aren't iron 45s - because they have a smaller diameter than the bumper 45s and will not absorb the impact.

Thanks.

Try Wichita Falls Weightlifting, that's about as affordable as I've found. I got my stuff from there.

The pairs of 25's are for fran-off's and high rep ohs or snatches. Or anything else requiring more than 95 but less than 145. Alot of my crossfit workouts use 95 so that's why they were the first i bought. And for girls, 95 is heavy doing the olympic lifts at first, so it helps with that too.

On the site they are 159 for a pair of 45's with free shipping. That's pretty hard to beat. Call him and see if he has colored 45's in stock. He might be able to do a set for just a little more. They are definitely what i'm getting next. After i have the 45's, i'm saving for the pendlay bar. I just don't know if i need to save for the elite. I can feel a difference between a york bar and anything else, so i might benefit from the nicer bar, but i could buy a second bar for the additional cost, and have some nasty squat/deadlift supersets also..

So damn pretty!!! I LOVE the color bumpers. :D Did you get these from Witchita Falls? Or somewhere else? Why brass inserts as oppossed to steel? I am getting a set of bumpers when I get back to the States, but I wanna buy 4 x 45, 2 x 25, & 2 x 10 with some Iron Plates in for extra, in between weights.

Matt, if you could answer this question, I've never really understood. What's the difference between using horse stall matting and a wooden base for your flooring? Can you drop bumpers on concrete?
Yes, you can drop them on concrete. A properly built platform will be better for the health of your bar, however. Many home-built platforms use horse stall matting for the side areas. So, if you just put down horse stall matting without a platform, superficially, you're only losing the wooden center. If you're just doing power cleans and push jerks, this is fine, but you'll want it if you're performing the full lifts, especially if you're split jerking so that the feet can move more freely.

Also, why would you want to get anything but 45 pound bumpers? You can always fit iron plates on - assuming they aren't iron 45s - because they have a smaller diameter than the bumper 45s and will not absorb the impact.

Thanks.
It depends on how much iron weight you're putting on the barbell. For bar health, it's best to use just bumpers because it spreads the impact over a larger surface area and reduces the amount of oscillation the bar is going to have while settling. As well, bumpers themselves split, wear out, and can even deform over time -- putting only one set of bumpers on can hasten this.

You're right that it's best to have 20 kg bumpers, but 25 kg ones are pretty useful when you get to larger amounts of weight. For a width just slightly larger than the 20 kg, you get an extra 5 kg of weight, which adds up when you're using a lot of plates. The reason to get smaller increments (e.g. 15's or 10's) is the ability to make smaller increments without mismatching units.
