Hey,

Thanks for everyone's helpful posts on the board (used to hang around a couple years ago when I dropped 40 lbs, forgot my login since then however)

Anyway, one thing I always had trouble with for HIIT was timing sprint intervals between 30-45 seconds when I wasn't on a treadmill. Seeing as looking at a watch while you're sprinting is a little hard and probably dangerous, something I recently tried was taking songs I like listening to into an audio editor (like Sony Vegas or Adobe Audition) and cutting songs down to ~35 seconds or ~50 seconds (couple seconds lead time) then use the playlist on my iPod to put full length songs in between (or those cutting down to what rest periods you want would work, but it's easier to use a watch during the non-sprinting sections). Lot easier to just sprint until the song changes imho.

Probably not the first person to think of this, but I'd never seen it mentioned here so hopefully someone will find it helpful.

Can't you just count in your head? That's what I do - say to yourself...1 one thousand..2 one thousand..etc, if you stay focused on counting it even takes your mind off of the hard work you are doing ;)..just dont count too fast or else you will cheat yourself

I use the countdown timer on my Timex Ironman, but I've heard good things about the Gym Boss (http://www.gymboss.com/), too.

I used an audio editor to do something similar. I just took a short beeping noise and edited so that it'd happen at certain intervals - letting me know when to go, rest.etc

Depending on the timed intervals you need, you might also find some pre-mixed tracks at Podrunner Intervals (http://www.djsteveboy.com/intervals.html).
