Hello, I'm new here (from the UK) but not new to weight training. looks like a great site so I thought I'd join up. I am quite a skinny guy but I have a bit of a beer/pizza belly... I decided that I want to bulk up but need to get rid of the fat first! I'm currently trying to cut my body fat down to around 10%.

I started cutting on the 3rd of June 2008.

My diet so far is;

Meal 1

1 Banana
54g Scots Oats
23g Precision Protein

Meal 2

90g Tomatoes
50g Peppers
2 Eggs
40g Lettuce

Meal 3

100g Chicken Breast
30g Brown rice
50g Cabbage
30g Spinach
50g Celery
2g (half a teaspoon) Olive Oil

Meal 4 (Pre-Workout)

100g Chicken Breast
30g Brown rice
50g Cabbage
30g Spinach
50g Celery
23g Precision Protein
25g Vanilla Whey Protein

Meal 5 (Post-Workout)

28g Dextrose
28g Maltodextrin
23g Precision Protein
68g Broccoli
65g Salmon Fillet

Meal 6

28g Milk Protein Concentrate

Total intake of 1873 Kcals

Fat - 378 Kcals
Carbs - 744 Kcals
Protein - 760 Kcals

At the start of the diet I weighed 147 lbs I now weigh around 140 lbs.

Excuse the miserable face, I'm not always like that, honest.

I'm not sure if I'm making as much progress as possible...would like to know what others thought and if there's any changes to my diet you could recommend?

I workout 4 times a week, no cardio as yet although I am considering starting it. can post my workout routine too but thought I'd save making the post any longer!

Thanks

Adam :tucool:

For starters, I really think you should aim to add muscle. You don't really have much fat, but your shape is a result of not having loads of muscle, either. At 140 pounds you really need to add weight, how tall are you?

Your diet could use a lot of work. The stickies contain a lot of valuable information on diet. Basically, you want lots of protein. 2 eggs is not enough protein for one meal. That's 12g protein (and 9g fat), you want more like 40g protein per meal.

Eat egg whites, fish, beef, chicken, cottage cheese, and turkey for protein.

Get all your carbs from fruits and veggies.

Get your fats from nuts, nut butters, olive oil, fish oil caplets, and meat.

Thanks for taking the time out to look. I'm 5ft 8. I've been using the info from..

http://www.myprotein.co.uk/your-goals/fat-loss/?article=diet

I chose to go for a 40% protein 40% carb 20% fat diet, and the diet in terms of cals is spot on for that.

There's so much conflicting info on the web about cutting and bulking, and I've changed my diet numerous times. For instance, I've read that I should be cutting to around 14% bodyfat or less before starting to bulk?

I think you've got plenty of protein in your diet, personally. Though I think you're at a weight where a controlled bulk would be very beneficial. If you get any lighter, you'll probably resemble a stick. You really don't have much fat on your body and the addition of some muscle will make a world of difference.

Thanks for the info, yeh losing more weight isn't really what I wanted but I was worried about not being able to shift the fat that is there...or putting loads more on. I will look at bulking now, I'll be glad to be able to start eating more to tell the truth! Thanks again.
