Ok so I think that over the last couple of weeks I have gotten a really good understanding of exactly WHAT TO EAT but not HOW MUCH i should eat...meaning......so exactly what do you guys use to measure your meals? how do you know exactly how many calories you are digesting? as a side question if you feel hungry 20 minutes after a meal does it mean that you are not eating enough?

I measure in terms of grams. So like 40g Scottish oatmeal, 50g blueberries, etc. To people who aren't familiar, for example, 200g green beens sounds like a lot, but in reality it isn't that much. Just like 200g asparagus or 100g grapefruit.

Basically I use nutrition data to give me the overall profile (with the exception of Scottish oatmeal as I use it's own) and then eat from there. On cuts where most of my carbs come from vegetables, I have yet to feel still hungry. Even when cutting calories (say at 1900-2100 calories), 200g french green beans, 200g asparagus, etc is going to keep you full with 45g protein.

I weigh stuff for the most part, even if not tracking exact calories to make sure I'm in line with what I expect.

As to feeling hungry 20 minutes after a meal, it may be you aren't eating enough, or it may be what you are eating. If you aren't getting enough fiber or enough fats, you don't stay a satiated as long. Simple processed carbs can cause me to want to snack on more processed carbs, while good P+F or P+fiberous carbs keep me full longer.

I have a digital scale. As for how to find calories/macros, many use www.fitday.com (http://www.fitday.com) or www.nutritiondata.com (http://www.nutritiondata.com) types of sites.

Does anyone here have any experience with or opinions on those digital kitchen scales that have the calorie counts for common foods built-in?

I've got a Salter. I used it for the foods for awhile, but then realized it was too much of a pain to enter the foods with a number pad and gave it up.

I wouldn't recommend.

MB, would you say that you have a lot of that kind of info memorized by weight anyway, or do you have some kind of 'offline' (e.g. dead tree) resource handy for reference?

I know in general what portions I want of my staple foods by this point. If I need to look something up, www.fitday.com or one of the many other nutrition sites will do.

I am using an old fashioned kitchen scale, which is pretty accurate.

My question is do you measure, chicken for example, before or after it's cooked?

I weigh my food raw, but allot of sites will give you options such as calorieking.com.au for raw and cooked weight.

I find it easier to weigh before cooking then you know whats going in, bit hard to seperate a stirfry to know how much meat you put in :D
