hi ...
my mom just told me that they started to hate chicken .. especially cuz i eat the breasts and leave them the thighs ,drumsticks (leg quarters) ... she just told me that i have to start eating some of these leg quarters cuz she can't keep stacking them in the fridge !

to make a long story short , i'll have to eat about 4 leg quarters per week ! or this considered to be a dirty diet ? ... i'm ready to give up cheat foods or any cheat meals and eat those leg quarters at least they are not as bad as eating pizza , cookies or whatever ...

in that case .. should i be still combining leg quarters with carbohydrates or not since leg quarters are high in fat and i read that fats + Carbs shouldn't be comined together ...

thanks ...

Why not buy chicken breasts and not whole chickens? Then there is no need to eat the fatty bits.:nod:

You can eat whichever parts you like.

If you feel you'd like to eat a lower fat diet, then pay the extra money to get the type of food you feel you need.

But I don't think the fat in the chicken legs is necessarily going to hurt your efforts, if it's balanced with a good variety of other foods.

I'd say that four leg quarters per week is probably not optimal, but I think you can make it work into your goals, if cost is more important to you than other issues.

Chicken legs....when properly prepared.....are not the end of the world. :nope: Yes, it's fattier, but any well rounded diet has room for good healthy animal fats.

Fried...yeah that's a problem....
Baked, grilled, any other prep that doesn't involve the chicken taking a swim in oil is probably fine.

That's because in the whole chicken, you are paying for the weight of the bones, skin, neck, organs, etc. Weigh what you end up throwing away and figure out how much meat you are actually using and I suspect you'll find the meat costs aren't tremendously different.

But eating the meat all over the bird isn't bad. In fact, dark meat has more nutrients than the white. And some fat won't kill you.

I even <gasp!> eat the skin! And egg yolks! :scared:

for chicken i eat it broiled ...
i'll try to reduce them to 2 leg quarters per week ... of course this is better than having pizza or any other fatty (fattier) stuff ...

You could also make yourself some soup from the parts you don't like. If you skim the top after it cools you will remove most of the fat.

Fat isn't evil. :blank:I was hopin' you'd stop by.

I think it makes more sense to look at your whole diet, instead of just saying you'll cut back on the chicken legs. :)

I'm the fat guy apparently :D

Decent read on the highlights of nutrients in dark vs white meats...including red meats as well (http://www.diet-blog.com/archives/2007/10/08/dark_meat_vs_white_meat_whats_the_difference.php).
