My goals are to cut, I have roughly 20% body fat right now but am in the best shape of my life. I have a journal which shows everything I eat (only moderate variation, I do not eat the same thing everyday though).

I take the following supplements first thing on the morning with water.

1200mg Fish Oil Concentration Softgel (Naturemade - Costco)
1000mg Flax Seed Oil Softgel (Naturemade - Costco)
1 Mega Men's (GNC)
50mg Proanthocyanidin (Grape Seed Extract - GNC)

I also take whey and some carbs following this. I know this is generally accepted and proven to be a good idea. Obviously I also take whey again after I workout though I take it with a complex carb source. (1:1)

I have been experimenting taking the same supplements again before bed or after a workout. I think the fish and flax seed oil are the most beneficial supplements I take.

I was beginning to think at the very least I am wasting my money with double dosing on the multivitamin. Opinions?

Also, I think the fish and flax seed oil is probably best after a workout? (Typically I workout mid-day or fairly late)

it does seem like a lot of omega-3 fatty acids, the fish oil and flaxseed oil are redundant. like everything, there's probably side effects from taking too much, i would just take 1 of them. i chose flaxseed oil because it has omega 3, 6, and 9.

It was suggested to me that:

fish oil benefits more for the cardiovascular
flax seed oil benefits more for reducing muscle soreness

The reason I take it at night is thinking the vitamins/minerals are helping my body short and long-term. It is also possible they are leaving my body unused every morning.

I will try to keep a check on certain things. I would be interested in a senior member's opinion though. I haven't a clue.

Don't take the supplements on an empty stomach. The oils are fats and if your body must, it will burn them for energy. This is most likely to be the case if you're eating them first thing in the morning. I usually wait about half an hour after meals before taking fish oil for that reason.

I would just take the fish oil and forget about the flax. Fish oil already has tons of dha/epa (your body inefficiently converts flax to dha/epa) -- In addition, some evidence suggests that ALA (flax) has a negative impact on prostate health, showing a positive correlation between ALA consumption and prostate cancer.

Sorry if I'm missing something here, but your post suggests you are taking 1 capsule of 1200mg of fish oil. That's 1.2gram which is not much at all. The same for the flax. At that level I hardly think taking which or both matters.

That isn't over doing anything. Others with a bit more science background can advise you, but I take 10 grams a day of fish oil.

I've taken flax in the past as well in higher amounts daily as part of my protein shake to slow absorption of the protein powder.

At this point ,and having used both, I just prefer the fish oil as it does seem superior to the flax in certain areas or at least so they say. I also use the liquid form and not the capsules.

Also on your question of when to take fats/oils, a lot of people subscribe to the view that PWO is the time to minimize fat intake.

10 grams sounds a little excessive. . .not to mention expensive.

My fat is in my food (oatmeal, some other whole grains (I try to limit), meat, extra virgin olive oil, et cetera).

I am always open to why you think 10 grams is a good idea though?
