There are so many different routines and all? How do I pick the right one?...

I' 25, vegetarian, pretty healthy, no physical issues (i.e. bad back, or anything like that).

Have a nice gym right next to my house with all imaginable equipment.

Where to start?

I've done training in the past. I've done Max-OT, then some other routines as well. But I'm not sure if they were as effective as I'd like them to be.

Thanks!

Go to the gym and talk to their trainers, if they have any. Describe your goals, and based on your current physical state they should be able to suggest something.

Alternatively, post stats/photo here, along with goals, and see what the responses say. The folks here are both knowledgable and helpful.

The best exercise plan is the one you will do consistently, be it barbells or bowflex, just do it ;)

I generally have no problems with consistency as long as I know that what I am doing is right for me. That is why I am looking for something that's right. I've had bad experience with trainers at the gym, but I was contemplating of hiring a professional personal trainer for a few times.

I would recommend a fullbody or upper/lower split.

Starting strength or ABBH would be good starters.

Go to bodybuilding.com and search their database. They have tons of workouts depending on how many days you want to lift, what your goals are, etc..

First you have to define what is you want to achieve.

Fatloss?

Toning?

Endurance?

Strength?

Bodybuild?

Functional ability?

Train for a particular sport?

Then you match the program to your goal.

I notice you said you are vegetarian. Has this ever presented a dietary issue as far as your lifting goes? (You said you were briefly on Max OT at one time.)
