Recently our washing machine has been leaving rust looking marks on our clothes. I’ve been told that using something called Iron Out will remove the stains, but how can I prevent this from happening in the first place? Anyone know what could be causing this? We don’t have rusty water coming out of out pipes or anything. It’s not a new washing machine, but it’s not ancient either.

No one knows? My whites are getting ruined. It's not a town water issue.

What is your local water source? Most of the things I've read online refer to well water or hard water being the culprit. Some water leaves build up, some well water may have iron bacteria. I also ran across another site that says that the acidity in some detergents or cleaning solutions eat through the enamel which leads to rust stains on your clothes.
Other than Iron Out, I also heard people mention Red-B-Gone...
