I got one last month and I have a coupon for a free accessory - either the food grinder or the slicer/shredder. I really don't know which to get. Any pros/cons/uses/reasons to get one over the other?

I guess that depends what you tend to cook, or like to eat.

We use the grinder a lot, because we make our own sausages (hardeeharhar). It's been a great investment.

Yeah, see, nothing comes to mind where I'd use either one incredibly frequently. I do make bread fairly often (a high-protein wheat bread that I have for breakfast and use in sandwiches for lunch), but the only thing I could think of for using it then would be grinding my own wheat flour ... which I think is pretty silly.

I chop my vegetables so I can't think of a benefit I'd get from the slicer.

However, with the grinder I think you can get a secondary attachment to make your own macaroni. I think I may use that if I had it ... but I've read reviews and folks say that the macaroni attachment pretty much sucks, especially compared with all the other attachments.

You see my problem? I have a coupon for one of these, free, but don't know which one to get because I'm not sure I'd use either one.

I have the grinder - great for making ground chicken from chicken breasts, turkey sausage, etc... the food slicer looks like a pita. I really like the flour mill...I use it for grinding grains for brewing beer.

Were it me, I'd go with the grinder. Sure, you wouldn't use it that much, but I echo the sentiment of making ground chicken/turkey/etc.

Given that some stores actually charge a hair more selling ground proteins in the meat cases versus turkey breasts (for example), it wouldn't be bad to have and use on occasion.

Plus, I think it'd be cool to attempt making some chicken sausage. But that's me.

Okay, with three people saying "grinder" and none saying "slicer," I guess I'll go for the grinder.
