I am by no means a beginner when it comes to working out-- I worked in the industry during college and learned a lot about fitness and nutrition. I wasn't as diligent about going to the gym after graduating and getting a "real job" --then I injured my neck and back and was out of the gym for 6 months. When I finally got the okay I started off slowly and finally got back to my old routine.

Since I've been back at a decent regimen I've slowly been losing my appetite. I will remember when I feel completely sick to my stomach from not eating, but have an awful time eating my typical 4 meals a day (breakfast, lunch, pre gym and post gym) even when I remember because I feel full. I TRY to eat 1200 calories but for my gym routine that just isn't enough. Is there any reason WHY I would lose my appetite when I'm burning MORE calories than before?

P.S. I have no thyroid problem-- I had to get it checked for another condition and it's fine.
P.P.S. I'm 5'3" and wavering between 118-120lbs

It could be any number of things. I would see an endocrinologist about it if it worries you, and especially if you feel you're in a severe negative energy balance. Could be Leptin sensitivity, stomch mechanoreceptor issues, Hypothalymus sensitivity, etc. Have you tried grazing to meet energy demands?

Wow those sound like... fun. I probably won't be going to a specialist anytime soon about it, I was just curious if anyone had it happen to them or knew any reasons. I do have epilepsy so my brain isn't normal-- but any other problems would be caught by my neurologist.

I was just curious if anyone had it happen to them or knew any reasons. Not specifically. There have been times that I didn't want to eat, so my appetite decreased along with it, but I've never had a lack of appetite while trying to maintain or gain weight. I've also had a reduced appetite on really busy days, or on days I eat a lot more fruits and vegetables than usual or drink more water than usual, but it always catches up to me at some point and I make up for it with a huge meal. :eat:

You may try eating more than 4 times per day, but in smaller quantities. That helps me when I have gastric "issues" (including loss of appetite) from my Krohn's. You may also want to see if there's anything in particular that's filling you up unneccessarily. Sometimes a protein shake does that to me, as well.

If you see it as a big problem, you may want to bring it up with your GP. There are a bunch of stomach-related issues that can cause lack of appetite, so monitoring it on your own and enlisting the help of a medical professional may be in order.
