Hi All Anatomy Guru's...

Or anyone who may have had the same problem. I injured my shoulder last night lifting my four year old out of the bath. My own fault really as I lifted her while on my knees from a full arms length away from the bath. I lifted her straight up and over the edge of the bath and onto the floor during which I felt something give in my shoulder.

The pain is on the top of my right shoulder and is a dull ache until I try to lift my arm above my head, then its excruciating. So as long as I don't try to scratch my ear or rub my eyes (etc) then the pain is very bearable.

I have been lifting very heavy lately and have been worried about my shoulders (weak point) but have not had problems until now.

Any advice or suggestions are appreciated. If necessary I will seek professional advice but I like to do my homework before doing that.

Thanks you in advance.

Perhaps in injury to the supraspinatus? It is really tough to say....Here are a few diagnostic tests that might help give you an idea.

You might also browse the site a little more if you don't find what you need above. It goes without saying that if the pain persists that you should see a doctor.

A: Don't blame that lift. Pretty much a front raise, and you should have no problem with that. A four year old is what, 15kg? Doing that lift with plates or dumbells or barbells is common and a good idea. So when you get better, don't shy away from that lift.

B: Dunno which of the shoulder issues you have but it could be any of several - shoulders are complicated. I had a spot of acromial-clavicular arthrosis in one shoulder that had symptoms quite similar to what you describe, and I was worried that I had fried something in the rotator cuff. But no, was the AC joint being inflammed. Seems to be fine now, but it was a few months. You really have to see a professional to sort out what is wrong with a shoulder.
