More specifically, when do we use a 2-, 3-, and 4-day split routine? (i.e., Monday is chest/back, Wednesday is Legs/Abs, etc.)

I'm kind of confused on how to plan my bulking phase workout program on what routines I should use.

:jumping:

splits are used for many reasons. you can reduce the total time spent in the gym per day, focus on specific muscle groups, and allow increased time for recovery for those groups. you can also utilize fullbody workouts to bulk. starting strength is a good example of that.

you should use routines that you feel comfortable with. do some research into various splits and what they could possibly acheive with regard to your unique goals.

If you enjoy splits use them.

The upper/lower split is probably my favorite way to train.
