Hi everyone. I'm searching the internet for information on the shoulder pain I'm having and I'm not having any luck. Here's the story:

I had been having issues with my neck (nothing horrible, just stiff) and changed my pillow one night to see if that would help. Well, it was awful and I woke up all cramped and stiff in my upper shoulders. I usually sleep on my right side, and when I woke up my right hand was numb and my shoulder hurt.

Didn't think too much of it. Basically it hurt when I shrugged my shoulder down and in, and if I really shrugged up.

Anyway, played basketball and went surfing the next couple days, and those activities didn't cause any pain during them. I have good range of motion in my shoulder...lifting it over my head doesn't really cause too much pain.

Anyway the pain got pretty bad to the point where it's hard to sit at the computer. I had a massage, and that helped out the pain in my upper back that had sort of come out of nowhere. My shoulder has been improving ever so slightly, but not that much.

It seems to get stiff and it hurts when I do a "rolling shoulder" motion forward and down, and when I shrug up. Every once in a while a motion will send a pain over the outside of my shoulder.

The pain is basically on the top of my shoulder just inside the acromial joint, right where the trapezius is. I don't really experience the classic rotator cuff pain except every once in a while with random movements.

Just wondering if anyone has any idea about what could be going on here. It's been about 2 weeks now. Should I ice it? Heat? Strengthen? Stretch?

I do not have health insurance and I'd like to wait a bit before seeing the doc.

Shoulder problems are so complex it seems. I doubt you'll get specific advice.

I think you should rest it for awhile firstly. Maybe then you can start to do some mobility and stability excercises.

One of the most popular shoulder experts online is Eric Cressey, not sure if he can help you over the net or not. Of course, i'm sure it will cost money. :)

I've had minor shoulder issues myself. Its a major priority for me these days to substain shoulder health - Face pulls, wall slides, thoracic extensions, DB presses only etc are all apart of my routines.
