yes- i did. It hurts so bad. 2 weeks +. pain will not go. never get enough time off it for it to shift. hoping this week off uni will sort it.

i've stopped doing all exercise cos clearly doing exercise on a niggle of a ache is what turned it into a full blown mother f****r of an injury, so stopping seemed like the wise move until it heals.

the question being, basically - I want to know if I step up my training gradually, to a 3 day split weights/ with other 3 days where i run (i love running) will i still make gains if i eat enough? i worry that would be over training.

Obviously whatever I do, i'll step it up slowly, and pay more attention to those niggling aches instead of going running on them ( :o ).

my goals are always to get bigger, and add more mass, but i want to be a good middle distance runner too.

this is all based on my injury healing first. duh (edit)

I suppose I could try this and see? Still waiting eagerly on it to heal. Bought a support bandage today, and kept off it., also did the old ice thing.

Having gone through an achilles injury and subsequent surgery, I would suggest you get this looked at by an orthopedist or podiatrist. Achilles injuries take a long time to heal since there is so little blood flow to the area, and because the achilles gets so much stress on a day-to-day basis. You may wind up needing a boot/cast to restrict movement and allow healing.

Very intersting. I too would recommend a doctor visit. I recently tore my gastrocnemius (calf) but didn't know what was wrong until an MRI was done. When the doctor said it was my calf, he said "thank goodness it wasn't your achilles." :(

So yeah, go to the doctor please. :)

My Doctor said "Too bad it wasn't your calf...surgery for you!" :(

Yea, and I really didn't know anything about it. When he first said it was my calf, I thought "oh no," because I thought that would be worse. Apparently I was really wrong! :(

How was the surgery? Was it a long time before you could train again? Just curious. Hope you are doing a lot better now! :)

I wrote about it in my journal. I had surgery last June, a total of 8 weeks non weight bearing in a cast, and am still recovering. It was 6 months before I was allowed to start doing things like light squats and deadlifts. I am able to do a lot but am not back to where I was. And now the left achilles is starting to tear and I have to have the lengthening surgery to keep it from tearing badly. :blank: I read about your injury and was glad that it was in the calf instead of the achilles. Hope your calf recovers quickly. It sounds like you have got a sports focused PT, which made a huge difference for me.

:o Sorry about that, I don't go into the journal section as often as other sections. I'll definitely give yours a read when I get a chance though. :)

WOW. :( 8 weeks in a cast would make me lose my mind! And 6 months without squats and deads would be frustrating too. I'm glad that you're recovering...

...but sad to hear about the left one!!! :( Is the surgery you're having similar to the last one, or will it not require as much time off and/or as much time in a cast?

Yeah I have a sports focused doctor/PT too and I'm really thankful for it. I had my first rehab session this morning (will write about it later). It was OK, but definitely better (I am sure) than your situation. :(

OP - sorry for getting off topic like this. I'll take this conversation to k3vb0's and my journal. :) But yeah, go to the doctor please. :)

good news. Almost healed. Pain is minor and quite occasional. One more week tops. So excited to be hitting the pavement again for a spot of running, and my new weights regime, which is going to be straight up Starting Strength.

Today I hit the weights, no twinges. It's still not okay to run on, but i know it's all good in the hood weight wise. Today I did: Squats, Bench Press, Dead lift. Pure Starting Strength. Very satisfying workout. I used the warm up reps and everything. A real pleasure. Looking forward to Wednesday.

Okay so I was looking forward to Wednesday. But I still twinge in my thighs and yesterday i could barely walk. I'm by no means stupid enough to do to my thighs what I did to my Achilles, so I will wait until they stop twinging before I work them again. I assume I'm going to have to work back into this routine slowly.

After all, the first time i went for a run, i ached all over for 5 days. Now (or at least until i stopped for the Achilles injury) i can do it every other day just about. I have to work slowly into this new routine to avoid injury. But I will make sure by the end of the month I'm doing the proper Mon/Wed/Fri thing it specifies.
