Hey all,
I have an injury that is bugging me. Its been going on for about 2 months now. Basically the pain is the tendon from the biceps into the forearm. If I do curls with my palms up I feel pain and tightness in the joint at that tendon. Initially it started from squeezing a racquet ball to increase my strength. I play guitar and was using some heavy gauge strings ala Stevie Ray Vaughn.
Since the pain started I have dropped down the string gauge and stretch my arm all the time but its still not getting better. After a few minutes of playing or lifting my arm is inflamed and tight.
ANyone experienced this type of injury and what did you do to recover?
Thanks
Bill

sounds like tendonitis maybe, also sounds you like you should see a doctor! anything going on for 2 months needs some medical attention.

I agree with the above response. You'll want to see a doctor who will probably prescribe physcial therapy. No way to shortcut straight to physical therapy. The doctor also might try injecting you with some cortisone first to bring down inflamation. If rest hasn't fixed the problem, you'll definitely want to see a professional.

Sounds like you may have tendonitis of the distal bicep tendon. If you've got weakness, then I'd definitely go see a doctor. In the meantime, you have to stop doing things that make it hurt. That means no guitar, and no curls (or basically any exercise that involves pulling).
I injured my bicep a few months ago, and I rehabbed it by doing very lightweight curls (10lb DB) for high reps in order to get the blood flowing in that area and speed up the healing process -- but mine was likely a muscular injury, and yours sounds like a tendon injury. You want to be careful, because a snapped or severely damaged bicep tendon is no fun.

If you walked into your kitchen, reached up to a cupboard at head level or above, grasp a coffee can around the lid with your fingers, pull it out and set it on the counter, do you feel the pain and is it just on the outside of the elbow. That would be one of the classic types of tendonitis. I have some tips on that both for weight lifting and playing the guitar since it's happened to me repeatedly for many years. The first time, I went to a doctor and he said "Don't use it for 6 or 8 weeks". That was not what I wanted to hear nor anything I could live with!
