Hi,
Yesterday I finally upped my weight on straight leg deadlifts to 70 lbs (used to be 66. I don't have the equipment to make a less drastic increase) and today I've been feeling mild pains in the area pf my middle back. I'm worried I might have hurt myself since I've never heard of DOMS in that area. I'd love to hear your opinions!
Thanks,
Gila.

Yes, definitely. I often get DOMS in my back after heavy deads, though it's less severe now. The first time it happened I was also afraid I'd hurt myself but the soreness subsided after a few days. Generally, if the onset of the pain is slow then it's soreness and nothing to worry about. If it's a sudden pain, then you're in trouble (at least that's my view).
The only difference for me when it comes to DOMS in my lower back/middle back is that I don't train through it (at least not with deads) because I find that it hinders proper execution and form of the deadlift, which in turn might cause a serious injury.

Of course -- it's a set of muscles like any others. :)
