I live in Japan and I was doing some research - a 6.6 lb bag of protein mix here costs almost $100! That's way more than what's in america - you can get 10 lbs of whey protein from the web for under $60! I ordered some stuff online and even after the $60 shipping cost to Japan (heavy stuff mind you), it's still way cheaper. If I were to buy the same amount, in pure grams, of protein, glutamine, and other supplements, it would be $425 in Japan, versus $230 from america, and that includes the $60 shipping!

Anyone else from outside the U.S. finding it way more expensive than it should be to get good supplements? Or is it just this damn country?? (don't get me wrong, I like Japan)

I'm sure you can find some other types of supplements that would fit the bill, so to speak. Try looking for soy protein, or even soy milk would be fine. Anyone else have ideas?

I would just eat chicken, tuna, etc to get my protein if Whey cost that much here. Its not worth the cost when you can buy other types of protein food at the store.

I agree... what are fish prices like? In your case, it may actually be cheaper to buy the meat than the supplement. I like the supplements here because they're cheaper than going out and buying that much meat.

You'll have to weigh the decision yourself.

'you guys'???

I'm a big fat white guy. Very different from the 'you guys' you are obviously imagining of. Fish is the same price as in the U.S., tofu is cheap, but chicken and beef are going up in price because of BSE and bird flu import bans in place now. And protein supps are easier to ingest and prepare, wouldn't you say? I don't feel like eating 3 chicken breasts a day, anyway.

sorry man, tofu is an excellent source of protein and cheap, maybe check out some soya drink too, beans, peas are easy to prepare too... hope it helps.

Awful big protein wallop versus the volume you have to eat.
Don't know prices in Japan but that's my .02 cents. :tu:

wooo!
Good to see someone else over here in Japan. Im in Kawaguchi, Saitama.

You dont need to eat meat or whey to get protein, where do the animals get their protein from? Not from eating meat thats for sure.
Im sick of seeing so many people eating out of a tin cans instead of fresh natural food, what is it ? laziness?
I dont eat any meat at all and I dont have any problems with getting enough protein.
Beans, edomame, tofu, fresh veg, nuts seeds sprouts etc all provide enough.
There are no 'essential' amino acids in flesh that the animal did not derive from plants.
I need to start a new thread of 'why we survibve on cans and packets'

Please don't imply anyone is lazy on this board. Everyone is trying their darndest to get into shape.

And I would like to know where carnivorous animals get their protein from. The reality of life is not as black and white as you paint it.
