If I'm not sore or tense on my off days but I worked myself to failure on my workout days and felt a pump, is it safe to assume that I got a good workout? And I've heard that pushups ALONG with stretching on off days speeds up recovery because it increases blood flow bringing more proteins and vitamins to the torn muscle tissue. Is this true or are pushups on an off day after working chest tries not giving my muscles enouph recoup time? thxs for your replies.

Working to failure and achieving a muscular pump is not needed to have an efficient workout. Likewise, soreness is not an indicator of an efficient workout.

Active recovery can be helpful but just make sure it's not too taxing on your body. I like to just warmup and go straight into a cool down.

Eat well, train hard in the gym, eat well, rest, repeat as necessary.

A couple sets of pushups won't hurt but no real magic. You can stay active on rest days. But refrain from stressful exercise. Something you do need is 8 hours restful sleep, each night.

1. Soreness is not an indicator of a good or bad workout.

2. Feeling a pump isn't that much use either.

3. Pushups might help recovery but mainly if they raise your heart rate. I would use something else the day after an uppers workout.

4. Stretching certainly doesn't help recovery, and probably doesn't help anything else either. It can increase your risk of injury.
