I recently started kickboxing. I have been on and off in the gym the last few months. Lost about 40lbs, but I am still @ about 306lbs. Kickboxing has been tearing me down. I have been sore as hell after and sometimes it takes 2-3 days to go away before I go back to class. I am still a bit winded in class during fight sequences.

What kind of training should I do to build my endurance for kickboxing? I recently bought a kettlebell, and it has helped my upper-body strength and lighter gloves, because my arms were getting tired. I don't want to get my ass kicked because I am too winded to fight. Suggestions needed.

Are you breething during your fights? Try not to hold your breath during combos or strong arm punches. That was a big problem for me. Also for the muscle soreness you should drink about 16 oz of water an hour before and 8 oz for every 20 mins of excercize after. Potassium, potassium, potassium. Bananas are a great sorce to help with muscle soreness along with protein and a great nights sleep.

Cantaloupes are another great source of potassium.

Just keep at the kickboxing though, anything you do over and over will always get easier.

HIIT is a very good way to build up endurance IMO.
For me, HIIT running up and down the stairs was a great stamina booster. Should you chose to do that, I'd advise to use real stairs and not machines, like a stepper.

I was thinking of trying the stairs on my non kickboxing days. I tried going every day, but dont think my body is ready for it yet. My endurance has gotten a bit better if I go to the gym on alternate days. I want to kickbox everyday, so I guess it will take some time before I am able to do that. I want to master it, and I feel I can't if I don't do it everyday.
