SUp all, So right now i am doing Rippotoes Starting Strength Program, ANd i was wondering is there any kind of exercises i could do on off days to help the program or just improve cardio. Now i really hate running, I prolly wont start running again untill i have gained about 10 more pounds.

But i was thinking of something along the lines of Farmers walks like for intervals or distances. i cant really think of anything else. I just mainly wanan get more active on my off days.

GPP is a fine idea.

Look at strongman events to get a good idea of things you can do. It's going to be something like: carry, throw, lift, pull, toss, hurl, roll, flip, etc. + sandbags, tires, slosh pipes, logs, stones, sleds, sleighs, wheelbarrows, cars, etc. Climbing things and mixing in sprinting are good ideas too.

breakdance :D some of the best upper body/core workouts I have had to date came from trying to learn new break dancing moves.

if you are married make love to your wife, if you aren't try to pick up girls.

If that fails, get some rest.:tu:

I usually think about weight lifting, pretend that I'm weight lifting, shadow weight lift, etc.

Sprinting is good too.

On Rippetoe you really should be resting on your non-workout days. If you don't feel you need a rest, you aren't lifting enough on your training days.

The most common mistake I've come across is lifting too light because of insufficient rest between sets. Mark suggests taking as much as 5-10 minutes if you need it.

Your non-workout rest is where you are going to grow, no need to mess that up with cardio if gaining mass is your goal (which I assume it is, otherwise you wouldn't be on a bulking program like SS).

Plenty of time for cardio when you pack on some meat.

whoa i never the regime said u could have 5-10 min rests inbetween sets i thought it was 2-3min rest periods, i guess this is new from his book or maybe i just misread. But WoW i can prolly start doing even heavier weights with those rest times

Yep, it's in the back when he talks about programming. It doesn't matter how fast you lift, just that you lift it all. It was tough for me to do that at first, now I'm used to it because it lets me lift like a beast.

Unfortunatly, I'm just about at the end of what I can do. My poor old frame can't take squatting 3 times a week much longer (nearing 10 weeks, which was my goal).

How long do you workouts last?

An hour to 90 minutes... Depends on how pumped I am and how quickly I recover..

I have lot's of ideas on what to do whilst between workout days, unfortunately my wife isn't always in the mood..

On cardio though, is it a good idea to lay off the running while bulking? I am building up blubber faster than muscle and am going to start running again before I have to start buying new pants..
