John said this morning:
"when I was in the prep area after getting my IV and all the monitoring devices attached, the alarm on the heart rate monitor kept going off because my resting heart rate is 38-39 BPM and the thing was set to go off when the patient's heart rate drops below 40 BPM. It was driving them nuts, so they had to come re-configure it so that it would not go off. The nurse couldn't figure out how to do it and had to call for backup. While they stood around trying to figure out how to change the setting, they kept saying "you've got one heck of a strong heart! Do you work out?""

Did you flex your bicep at them and say, "DAMN RIGHT I DO!!" :D

I look forward to the day when people don't say to me "hey, are you losing weight?" but instead say, "damn! Do you work out??"

Glad to hear your recovery is progressing nicely John. We're thinking about ya.

Ditto from me.

"Do you work out?" Either they must not have been the brightest group of medical professionals or John still had his shirt on.

Good luck to you John for a speedy recovery.

John, it's a good job you were still coherent or they might have got the shock pad thingies out (I think that's their technical term  ).

Best wishes

Well, I can finally say that I got that 'compliment' for the first time two weeks ago.

I was in Nashville for a wedding and saw a lot of my college friends for the first time in a couple of years. About 3-4 months ago I was getting the comments of 'Wow, you're slimming down' (I've always been slim :p) but finally at the wedding party I was getting comments along the lines of 'working out', 'big', 'huge', 'omg wtf', etc.

The ironic thing is that I feel like I worked out harder the following week than I had in a long time. It's weird how those things work out.

People need to get a clue. Stop watching so much TV. Nobody looks like John accidentally. Yeesh.

When people ask that I swear it's like they're hoping you say "No" so they can say, "See, it's all genetics anyway, there's no point in me working out at all. I'll just go back to the couch..." :p
