View Full Version : What is a rest day ?
Matthieu Mon, February 4th, 2008, 09:08 AM Hi,
If on Monday I do Chest, on Tuesday I do Legs, and on Wednesday I do Chest again, do we consider that I had a rest day between my 2 chest days ? (I think it's no but I'd like to be sure).
And what if I do Cardio on Tuesday ?
(I think it's yes :) )

I've always considered a rest day a day where you perform no weight training. Cardio is ok though.
Polski Mon, February 4th, 2008, 10:29 AM Rest Day = No activity at all , maybe cardio but no weights. Rest day you allow your muscles to build and repair because thats when they grow, when they are resting.
But your talkin about the other kind of rest, and to answer your question no I wouldn't consider Tuesday enough. At minimum you want 48 Hours rest between hitting the same muscle in the gym. So if your doing your Chest on Monday, wait till Thursday to do it again, but Ideally I wouldnt do it again untill you work in the rest of your muscles so your body is proportional. Don't just focus on your pecs, remember working out your back will actually help increase your bench.

In fact that was just an example... the question is more: why training legs on tuesday would prevent chest to repair and build ?
What's happening with the body, so that training the legs could affect the chest ?
As far as my program is concerned, I do:
Mon: Chest
Tues: back
Thu: Legs
Fri: Shoulders
so you see it's quite balanced :tucool:

The body recovers as one complete system (CNS, PNS, hormonal and chemical output) We are not Frankenstein's monster and comprised of individual, unrelated bodyparts. If your energy substrates are taxed and you haven't sufficiently recovered from a workout, everything from fat burning, metabolic rate, RMR, protein synthesis, along with a host of other systemic and biological factors will be severely compromised.
Unless one is on AAS's, the natural lifter needs complete rest days from resistance training to allow progression to take its course.

True. And as you get past your teenage years where you can get away with a lot of stupidity because you are essentially on natural AAS's, then rest becomes more and more important.
There's no point taking your lifting seriously if you don't take the rest (and to some extent nutrition) seriously too.

Ok sorry for the confusion but you did not post that in your original post. All you said was doing Chest again with only 1 day break which should never happen.
