Hi, I'm a very frugal person when it comes to money, I was wondering if it'd be cheaper to get protein from purely foods as opposed to adding in supplements. At about 5 bucks a lb of whey protein, the money adds up. For 5 bucks worth of avg priced chicken breasts, how much protein does it contain? Adding in as a factor that chicken would probably fill me up more than protein alone, what do you guys think would be the best overall investment? Also, is whey protein that much better than animal protein when it comes to muscle gain?

Well, the chicken breasts I get cost about $8 per package, and each package contains 192 grams of protein total. Thus, for $5, I get about 120 grams of protein....but, I don't necessarily look for the least expensive chicken breasts I can find -- Mostly because I eat them almost every day, and so I have to actually LIKE them in order to keep eating them so often. So, I get the ones that taste the best. Generally though, it is clearly more cost effective to use supplements than chicken breasts, but I wouldn't use supplements as my only protein source. Food is king -- so, even if it costs a little extra, you should be eating things like chicken, fish, milk. eggs....and don't forget your fruits and veggies. :)

Thanks for the feedback, I think I'll combine the too, counting the avg amount of protein I get from my foods then adding whatever amount of protein I need to get about 180 grams a day.
