View Full Version : Down and looking for some guidance
OrdiWife January 30th, 2008, 01:11 AM I am so frustrated with myself at this point. I cannot keep on track for the life of me. Now the closer it gets to the summer the more frustrated I get. I want so bad to walk out on a beach or go to our neighborhood pool and not be embarrassed about the way I look. Now that I realize how close it is I just get so down because I knew that it's my fault that I didn't get anywhere with my goal. I did lose about 10 lbs over the past 6 months. Not even close to my goal. I would just love to fast foward through the summer months. I'm sorry if this is in the wrong spot. Thanks for listening.
J_W January 30th, 2008, 01:29 AM Hey, Ashley. What seems to be the problem? What does your workout and nutrition regimen look like?
You can make a lot of progress in just three months if you decide to buckle down and do it (just take a look at my March-June 2007 progress pictures). Look into Body for Life if you haven't already.
You have to decide that you want it badly enough. Motivation is something none of us here can provide. :)
Traxxus January 30th, 2008, 01:30 AM I would say a net 10 pound loss isn't "no progress" towards your goal. It's 10 pounds of progress! It may not have happened as fast as you would have liked, or as easy as you would have liked, but it definitely would NOT have happened if you had done nothing at all.
Exercise and diet are the easy parts compared to the tricks your mind will play on you. Your mind will try and convince you that you've failed, that you WILL fail, that you've made no progress... The key to winning at this game is to realize that's happening, and to keep going anyway.
So this summer won't be what you envisioned initially. Is that any reason to give up on next summer? Or the summer after that? Or 5 years from now? If you keep going, even if you only lose 10 pounds every 6 months, you WILL reach your goal. If you get frustrated and quit, you will definitely NOT.
Stay on the forums, and keep focused on what you have done and will continue doing. Ask us for advice and motivation. Having a support network makes any bad thing easier. Stick with it! Everyone here has faith in you!:tu:
Big_D January 30th, 2008, 01:34 AM 10 lbs is a lot of progress! It's ten pounds closer to your goal, 10 lbs you don't have to lose anymore. All of us have our bad moments, but you have to keep on going through them and keep on track. What is your diet looking like? Cardio? Weights? Post these and we can help you fine tune your program so you get the most progress.

Doubleoqueso January 30th, 2008, 07:38 AM There will be times when you feel down, but that's when it's most important to look at your success thus far (10 lbs is great!) and realize you've got what it takes to keep going!

timwalsh300 January 30th, 2008, 11:38 AM If just staying on track with your nutrition and workouts is the problem, then you are in a perfect situation to read "The Alpo Diet" by Dan John - the single greatest piece I have ever read on how to set goals and motivate yourself to achieve them.
Here is the article... http://www.t-nation.com/readTopic.do?id=508772
Your "can of Alpo" is this... On June 1, 2008 (4 months from now), you are going to the pool in your swimsuit regardless of how you look. You'll understand what I'm talking about after reading the article.

OrdiWife January 30th, 2008, 09:17 PM I am looking to lose 50 more pounds. I havn't gone to the gym in a couple weeks, school keeps me busy from 7 to about 6 and I am so exausted by the time I get home. That is no excuse though. When I do go I try to go at least 4 times a week. I do back and biceps, chest and triceps, lower body and abs each on a different day. . I use higher weight with lower reps and I do 3-4 sets. I try to do some type of cardio as well. I love going to the gym, lately I just have been so drained. Food is my biggest problem. I LOVE bread and pasta and things like that. Coule anyone give me an example or what I should be eating during the day?
timwalsh300 January 31st, 2008, 09:32 AM You just have to start planning around your workouts, not trying to fit in the workouts around the rest of your schedule. Make it first priority to get up early and go in the morning, or to go over right after school on your way home before doing anything else.
A lot of people find that when they start to get into it, that feeling of exhaustion actually goes away and they have MORE energy than they did when they weren't exercising regularly.
As far as what to eat, these forums are FILLED with information. You probably can't even think of a topic that hasn't been discussed here already. Opinions on the specifics (e.g. whether you're OK eating pasta and bread everyday or not) will vary but the common, basic advice on how to control portions/calories and eat a balanced diet will take you a long way - maybe all the way to your goal.
