Yo, guys. I've been training my abs hard for a while and have added some serious oblique work on top. But, I'm reading from the bodybuilding crowd that you don't want to overextend the obliques, 'cause they make your waist larger.
I'm at a delimma. I love the strain on the obliques, but how serious is this.? I'm into strengh training, not body sculpting. So should I give a fu**. ?

If you don't care about the looks, then go on ahead and hit 'em. This past workout my trainer Andre came up with another one. Cable row on planche with one foot raised. It's another one of those cable lift on planche deals where the obliques get hit isometrically. Worst one to date.

Unless your wanting to become a professional body builder, nope. If your not getting on stage and being scrutinized by a bunch of judges on your waist to shoulder width ratio, its probably not going to make any difference.

You know, I don't plan to do any competition at all, but another guy and I have fun seeing who can do the most abs crunches and oblique (cross track machine) workouts. And. as I am slimming down, I'm noticing that my obliques are substantial, but not overpowering. In think they improve my look. It seems to me that the judging rules are like dogs, there is a standard, and if you don't match it, you'te fucked.
But, if you don't want to meet the standard, there's opportunities ...
Stay tuned.

Thanks for the links. I'm pumped! ...and you're right. I have a good way to go to meet these challanges -- but what a fun goal!
