I was doing a search about tuna and i came across the thread where the guy didnt like tuna anymore.

i saw some advice about putting soy sauce and sesame oil in it as well as lemon juice.

does anyone else have input on what they do to spice up the dry taste of tuna?

i am using canned tuna as a quick snack so nothing to complicated would be awesome. Just open can, sprinkle whatever on top and blamo snack:)

thanks

I like it with Fritos or regular saltine crackers which aren't particularly healthy. That's really the only way I actually like tuna so I don't eat it much. Ketchup or mustard would work too I guess.

Usually I can't be bothered so I just eat it straight but sometimes I dice some onion and mix it together. Tastes better with oiled tuna, but not bad with plain water one which I only eat these days.

I know a guy that uses a little bit of mustard, which is probably pretty good. I just eat it plain or on a salad...make sure you get the kind thats in water if you arent...the veggie oil is sick.

I bet the lemon suggestion would be great too, i might try that. Or maybe even the olive oil vinegrette dressing I have...

I like it straight. There's this one kind called "sweet and spicy" that's delicious right out of the package.

I usually mix in some light mayo, but I usually feel kinda guilty doing so. Oil and some spices are good though, especially on some whole wheat bread.

Just got some of this a few days ago. Loving my tuna now with about 9g of the mayo, some mustard, and chopped spinach.

I eat Genova Tuna packed in Olive Oil and dump it on a bed of romaine with dried cranberries, sunflower seeds, chopped pecans, and whatever other salad veggies are around. That isn't too quick, though. You might want to try and carry a salsa around as well or a bag of nuts and dried fruit. Surprisingly, the taste of cranberries, tuna and pecans is extraordinary!

Someone on jsf once suggested it to me; I use fat free yoghurt (vanilla or strawberry, plain is just siff). I eat it as one of my meals at work, it looks like sludge so I tend to get a lot of "wtf is that" looks. I believe it's healthier than the mayo I used to use.

Ever try full fat Greek yogurt? Mark Sisson recommends it and it is GOOD. Plus, it is bursting with protein.

This thread is just what I needed. I had tins and tins of tuna in my cupboards but I couldn't bear the thought of it anymore. After reading some of the suggestions I simply added some dark soy sauce and some tabasco. Perfect! I could eat that all the time. I might try some of these yogurt suggestions as well. Sounds disgusting, but I'll give anything a go once.

I usually mix it with 6 egg whites or with salsa or if I am feeling extra crazy I will mix it with box for a meal :)

I have also tried using some low sugar, low fat salad dressings since I hate mayo...:D

I'm a huge fan of the tuna and avocado as well! 6oz of tuna a a whole avocado is amazing! I usually dash in some tapatio or cholula hot sauce to spice things up a bit. The avocado has a little less than 30 grams of fat, but its all monounsaturated, so I don't feel bad about it.

I used to just use fat free mayo, a little pickel relish, and a couple of egg whites. Ran out of mayo one day and had an avocado that was about to go bad so I tried it out... new favorite! I'll probably mix in some egg whites tonight for some added protein and I might try some lemon juice as well.

I started eating Genova Tonno Tuna in Olive oil. This tuna is much better tasting than the usual Starkist or Chicken of the Sea. You can actually eat it straight without gagging.

From what I've read, it's basically Chicken of the Sea's premium brand. It's $2.00 per can at Trader Joes but it's worth it.

I think the best way to eat Canned Tuna, is to add some Olive Oil, 1 or 2 whole chilli's (red or green) chopped then a little Rocket leaf and the dryness of the fish is taken away completly.

Or as someone else stated a little onion.

I usually dice up some bell pepper, celery, red onions and sometimes black olives -- throw it all in the bowl with a can of tuna and stir in 2 or 3 tablespoons of light italian dressing (5 calories a tablespoon). You can eat it like this, or mix in some whole wheat pasta, or a side of toast, etc.

i just had this for lunch:

white tuna can in water, drained
small diced tomato (with the seeds and watery stuff removed)
a small pickle spear with the seeds removed, sliced thin, and diced
a few jalapeno slices diced
a little olive oil
a little salt/pepper
a dash of seasoned salt
a tablespoon of low fat mayo

mix it all together and it's awesome. all the veggies add texture and spice.
