View Full Version : Bulking or Cutting???
hol64 January 23rd, 2008, 04:10 PM Hi everybody first post.
Recently I lost 20 Lb in 3 months, I went from 162 Lbs to 142 Lbs.
I am 5' 6'' tall and currently weight 148 Lbs (after christmas and new years) and have a BF around 15 to 16.5%.
Should I be working on bulking or cutting? I wanted to know what are your thoughts. Also I am starting on the gym and this is my current routine please advice:
Day 1
Cardio 30 minutes (3 miles run)
Chest (3 exercizes)/Shoulder(1 excersize)/Bicepts(1 excersize)
Day 2
OFF Day
Day 3
Cardio 30 minutes (3 miles run)
Back (3 excersizes)/Tricepts(2 excersizes)
Day 4
OFF Day
Day 5
Cardio 30 minutes (3 miles run)
Chest (3 exercizes)/Shoulder(1 excersize)/Bicepts(1 excersize)
Day 6 and 7 are OFF days, usually I do rockclimbing or play soccer.
Let me know what you think.
THANKS!!!
Flows January 23rd, 2008, 04:42 PM At first glance, I noticed you are missing some key lifts. Deadlifts, SQUATS, Dips, and Rows to name a few. You only have one of the key compound lifts in your routine (benchpress).
Also, you cut a lot of weight, but your bf% seems high for your overall size. If you share your diet and your goals with us, you will get some real solid advice. Be as specific as possible.
andysutils January 23rd, 2008, 05:10 PM hard to say, its ultimately up to you, do you wanna get bigger, or get toned etc? 148lbs is light depending on your age.
if you want to bulk, get some heavy compund lifts going in your routine such as ,deadlifts, squats, chins, flat/incline benchpresses, BB rows, militery presses, chest dips.
i havent got a clue about cutting or even what workouts to even suggest as ive never had to cut.
hol64 January 23rd, 2008, 05:42 PM My diet is of about 1500 calories a day. I guess I would like to point towards cutting first, and if I need to. I can work on bulking later.
Let me know what do you think.
Thanks

Eat more. You're young and active. There's no reason to be eating like a 90-year old woman.
hol64 January 23rd, 2008, 08:48 PM Ok, how about a routine that so I can get my body fat to arount 10% for first goal.
Is the one I presented ok?

Is the one I presented ok?well, first and most important, you need to be eating more than to bulk, for 148lbs, id say you gotta be aiming for a minimum of 2800-3000 cals a day, just to start with as bulking isnt about turning into godzilla and eating buildings. you might not be able to start on 2800 cals a day, but youll be able to build up to that in time as i did and make sure you eat clean, keep the fat to a minimum.
youll have to post your routine in a more detailed workout and what you do step by step to give us a better picture.
its not the routine thats going to give you up to a 10%bf count, its the diet that goes with it, if you cant eat right, forget good gains.
goonie January 24th, 2008, 03:43 PM If you're serious about getting opinions on a direction with your physique, then post a picture. Discussing the questions you're asking based on numbers alone is of limited value.
I certainly have my doubts that your current 1500 calorie diet plan is capable of producing the best body composition possible. We'd need more information here as well.
Why are legs absent from your strength training program? Let me guess, they're already strong from your running/soccer. :blank:
hol64 January 25th, 2008, 10:36 AM Yes, I have soccer legs, I been playing all my life. I have been doing the weight watchers diet based on points. Nothing specific on what you eat, you just have to eat a certain amount of points per day.
As of today I am weighting 145Lbs. I guess my first goal is to Cut BF% to 10% and go from there. I'll try to get a picture soon.
I am trying to work out a routine also. My gym has dumbels as free weights then it has machines...
Thank you so far for your replys.
