Hey everyone, I just found out today EVERY1 in my family has high blood pressure, my dad is at 155/95. and my 23 year old brother is at 150/90. It's obvious because they're not very athletic and eat alotta salts.Me on the other hand I'm not sure once time it said 115 the other time it said 145! and I'm only 16. I'm not too worried about my blood pressure because I've been only jogging 5 times a week for 45 minutes for 2 weeks and usually 30 minutes a day 2-3 times a week impacts your blood pressure within 3 months. I know my readings have been inaccurate thus far cuz my RHR is around 60-80 and I was measuring 94-105 on the machine, I was really nervous and anxious about it and when ever I measure. Its also well documented that 2 sessions of 15 minutes meditiation can lower your numbers by 8 whole points within 4 months. I've also purchased a rebounder! so by the end of this year ill have like a 100 systolic count! :D But I wanna help out the rest of my family.

http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=2114 High blood pressure can damage your organs like kidneys, give you heart disease , heart failure , heart attack or an enlarged heart. I think more people die from heart problems than cancer. But even if you do have its still easily reversable without drugs within a year. I'm more relaxed now and my heart rate in the evening is usually around 60, I did another test and my bp now is 86/68 with a 59 rhr. I'm just curious what finely tuned athletc blood pressure's are.

Okay, OP, you're in the same boat as me. You will want to avoid almost all supplements. As a matter of fact I only use protein, creatine, and a multi-vitamin due to my family's tremendously high risk of high blood pressure.

Obviously you can take more than the three supplements I listed. I guess the main point is to be sure you understand exactly what you're taking. Everyone should do that sort of thing anyway, but we have to be extra careful because a lot of stuff out there is definately not for us.

My parents have high blood pressure.

Mine was usually average 120/80 ish.

Lately it has been elevated. Today even, after my workout, I was feeling light headed when I stood up. I checked my blood pressure and it was 136/69.

I ended up eating an apple and hopefully things even out.
What are some things you can do to lower these numbers?
What are the causes of elevated blood pressure?

If you truly got a BP reading of 86/68, I'd say find a new device or see your doctor.

A BP of 90/60 is typically quite hypotensive and usually results in dizziness and lightheadedness.

I used to get readings this low. The nurse would always double check it, and when it came out the same, she'd just shrug. My doctor didn't seem to think it was a problem.
