I was searching the web and ran into this site, thought it might be useful to someone. Animated excercises- for those that are not familiar with many of the weight lifting excercises. More for the beginner as those experienced will already be familiar with most if not all of the ones listed. Not the best quality but it does list the certain excercises for the various muscle groups.

Oh man!! Great find!! This should probably be a sticky John!! This is a great site for people who are new to weight training. Gives people an idea of what the exercises are and what bodyparts they work. :bb:

Mostly looks pretty good. The only one I don't like is the upright rows (for traps). The problem is that it shows the elbows flaring up, and it's a bit dangerous to lift them higher than shoulder-level.

Thanks a million man!!! I read about something here then in another window search google for what the exercise is. I was actually going to suggest to John that he add to his main site pictures of the different exercises. This would also go along with the book he's writing.

I prefer the link that John already has on his training/exercises link:
http://www.exrx.net/Lists/Directory.html
It shows the range of motion using animated gifs of actual people.

Great, now why don't the gifs work for me. Which one of my IE security settings applies to animated gifs?

They are far to crude to convey proper form, so they really only serve to show what each particular exercise looks like. Of course anyone who doesn't already know these exercises and needs to look them up also won't know how to use proper form -- not a good combo.
While they are no substitute for being shown proper form by a knowledgeable person, I like the stills at bodybuilding.com and the animated gifs at exrx much better. :)

I agree with Chis, I like the actual photos on that site. Although a true beginner could definitely get some benefit from the other.

I agree totally, it is more of a reference page than anything else. The other site is much more indepth but a little more difficult to navigate. For a beginner reading all of the comments on this site regarding various excercises such as dumbell curls, incline presses, shoulder shrugs etc. I though this was a site that someone could refer to and give them an idea of what each excercise was and what area of the body it worked. I certainly wouldn't use it to get my form from as stick people are used. I also don't think the originator had intended anything other than a reference with animation depicting a general idea of how each excercise is done.
One thing everyone should remember that I cannot stress enough is when reading the forum not to take everything as gospel. Read the info and advice but remeber to do your own research as well. What works for one person may not be right for someone else. :tu:
