Doesn't seem too difficult, other than holding the motor assembly in place while attaching it to the ceiling. I would be converting from chain drive to belt drive, but I do not think that would add to the difficulty. Basically I'm just trying to save $120 in install fees.

If you're reasonably handy with a set of tools, there's nothing to it.

Since it sounds like you're just replacing an old one, try to buy the same brand. My house had a Craftsman door opener. When that one died, I bought a new one from Craftsman, and the mounting system was almost exactly the same, so all I had to do was swap out the old for the new instead of changing out bracketry and drilling new mounting holes in the wall and ceiling. I think it took me an hour, and most of that time was spent getting the door sensor aligned properly and setting the open/closing pressure sensor. Not much to it at all.

It's fairly easy. I went from a Craftsman chain system to a Genie screw drive. No problems. 2 hours or so, including programming the remotes and the car's built in opener.

No changes in brackets were required. I did have to install the nanny sensors at the floor and run that wire as my old one was before those were required, but it was simple to do.

Good to hear. Thanks guys. Did a little more research and I am going to see if it as simple as taking slack out of the chain. If not, then I guess I need to decide between screw drive and belt.... Thanks again!~

Make sure your springs are OK, too. They can make it too hard to lift the door if they aren't tight enough.

I had mine break and jam the door one time. I had to call a garage door company because I could NOT get the thing free myself to get the car out. :bang:
