Anybody had happy surprises when their equipment showed up and they got to use it?
For example I finally went out and bought a scale last night. I stepped on it this morning after my shower and I'm a full 10 pounds lighter that I thought I was! (210 vs 220) :claphigh:
Maybe when my calipers (http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/acc/fattrack.html) show up I'll get another surprise -- hopefully a good one! If my bf% is higher than I expect, that's fine -- it means I have more work to do!

So I'm in for another surprise -- I think.
My calipers (http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/acc/fattrack.html) finally appeared today. At lunch I took measurements twice -- the first time I got 16% BF, the second time I got 18% BF. Guess I'm off to the caliper help thread (http://forums.johnstonefitness.com/showthread.php?t=296) to figure out what I'm doing wrong.
Hopefully this will be another good surprise...

Oh, see my difference is between what I thought I weighed (just intuition, a guess). I still need to weigh myself at the gym, then average the two :tu:

Or just keep using the one you just got and stop weighing yourself at the gym. That way you can guarantee that you are consistently using the same device that has not been abused and should be accurate from day to day. Who cares if it is inaccurate about your real weight? So long as when you lose a pound, it tells you that you lost a pound. Isn't weight loss what you are looking for rather than total weight?

Anybody had happy surprises when their equipment showed up and they got to use it? After John advised against trusting HR monitors on machines ('http://forums.johnstonefitness.com/showpost.php?p=5307&postcount=10') I did a little research. Turns out that since my gym ('http://arc.sdsu.edu') has all kinds of modern, shiny cardio equipment ('http://arc.sdsu.edu/cardioroom/index.html'), the machines read a Polar transmitter! Score! I headed down to Big 5 ('http://www.big5sportinggoods.com') and picked up the cheapest Polar unit they had: the Beat. Yes, it's more basic than the A1 -- it doesn't have ANY buttons: it's just a readout. It's so basic I couldn't find it on Polar's website ('http://www.polarusa.com/'). It was on sale for ~ $30. That's totally cool because what you pay more for is the fancy watch dealie -- all I need is the transmitter.
So now when I'm on the cardio machines I can pick the "constant HR" option and the machine will adjust resistance accordingly by reading off the transmitter! Sweet! Once I'm ready for HIIT I can look at the machine's control for both HR & timing info! Good investment? Sounds like it!
What the watch unit displays and what the machine displays are mildly different. They're usually only off by +- 5bpm. I'll attribute that to the machine having more memory and a better algorithm than this lil watch unit.
I'm so stoked
