I need to step up my home setup which currently is a combo of free weights and a bowflex. Haveing to do a pretty much a clean and press to do squats is getting old and limits the amount i can do safely. Would like a setup i safely do squats and also some way i can do lats or pullups.
Problem is the room is on the 2nd floor and is like 9x9 maybe 10x10. I was looking at the Powertec power rack but i think its going to be too big. Any other ideas ?

Ceiling height is usually the biggest factor in the installation of a rack (or lat pulldown/pullup equipment).
Are you thinking of keeping the bowflex in the room as well?

I have the Powertec power rack in a space that's about 8x8 and I get by ok. Admittedly, I do have very high ceilings which helps. As floor space goes it's fine. There is only 6 inches clear either side of the bar but I don't need more than that to be honest.

Actually measure the room, its like 8'4" square. I would be taking the bowflex out of the room and selling/giving it away
The height issue of the room I think is ok for the powerrack.
Whats the smallest Bar you can use with it.

7ft
The rack won't be too tall for any room I would say. The only thing would be how much room you have to press, but that applies to pressing, not the rack.

Power Rack is smaller than i thought looking around more. Found this
http://www.newyorkbarbells.com/92563gra.html , then finally found out that almose everysite lists the PR dimensions inc. the lat pulldown.
Is 7ft. the minimum size bar you can use w/ it ? or just what you use. If i could use a 6ft bar I think this could work.

Some guy posted the dimensions of his 6ft bar a while back when asking about the rack. It was too small. The holdable area on mine is about 4 inches bigger than the width of the safety bars. If you can find a 6ft bar the same you would be in luck I guess but there wouldn't be a great deal of room to load the plates.

I need me one of those! Is there a generic name for that type of equipment? What would you say is a fair price for one of those?

They are generally called power racks, squat rack or just racks. In the UK the price ranges from £100 to £300 pounds (the powertec pictured above was £300). So I can only guess at the price in the US would be from around $200 to $600.

The Powertec base unit (the one woodan has) costs $399 in th US. I'm not sure what shipping will cost.

There's also a lat tower option, but it's another $400, and there has been some discussion before about whether it interferes with some exercises by limiting where the bench can be placed.
