Hi, I am 20 years old 5-8 210lbs and was just wondering if anybody could give me a rough estimate of my bf %. What got me motivated to getting in shape was one of my friends, he is 22 years old, and was fat like how i am now, and within a year he had a nice chest and almost a washboard stomach, so if he can do it, i can too. I have already lost 20lbs so far in 4 months. I just hope i don't end up with loose skin. Well here is the pics for the bf estimate

At 5'8" I'd put you around 55% [EDIT: Wrong, bad math -- 41%]. KineticPoet was in the same boat in Dec 2005 and look at him now (http://forums.johnstonefitness.com/showthread.php?t=39890).

20 lbs down so far is great! Keep on track and you'll be leaner and fitter every month 'til you're ripped. :tu:

He did turn out pretty good, thats the kind of body i am aiming for. I just hope i don't end up with loose skin, because I have been overweight all my life. I started at 230lbs and people are already starting to notice the weight loss, so that is a good sign. I use a bowflex for my chest back and stomach, but havent seen much results yet, but i do feel a lot better than i used to.

You're pretty high bodyfat, but definitely not 55%. That would mean you only have 94.5 pounds of lean mass.

I'd place you around 40% or possibly a little lower.

Whoops! Absolutely right. I was estimating 125 lbs of lean mass for your height. That would be 41%. :bang:

My bad. :o

Somewhere around 40%.

No comparison between worrying about a little loose skin or staying in the shape you are.

Be motivated because you want to do this for yourself. Maybe your friend provided a little extra push, but you deserve to be healthier regardless. If you feel better about yourself, you'll find a way for the positive affects to reach the people around you. You have the right attitude in knowing you can do this.

Best of luck and congratulations on your progress thus far. Keep going. :tu:

btw...Make sure you're not only training your upper body.

20lbs in 4 months is a great start, I'm sure its hard to imagine it, but keep it up and you will have that nice chest and abs in no time! Trust me, after looking at a fat guy in the mirror your whole life, when the day comes (at the rate your going not far from now) that you see a lean, defined fellow looking back at you, you'll feel so good about yourself you won't care if his skin isn't as tight as one of those fat rubber bands they put on broccoli.

Welcome to the site I look forward to seeing your transformation!
